The Seattle Seahawks selected strong safety Winston Guy out of Kentucky with the 181st overall pick (6th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft. Guy is 6’2″, 218 pounds and he runs a 4.69 40. Guy is an in the box safety as he excels against the run but needs to be coached up against the pass. Guy played in 12 games (all starts) at Kentucky last year and he had 120 tackles, 2 passes broken up, 2 interceptions, 14 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble. Guy played all four years at Kentucky and he finished up with 297 tackles, 9 passes broken up, 5 interceptions, 20 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble. Guy will be able to help the Seahawks on running downs and on special teams in 2012. This was another reach for the Seahawks as not many draft “experts” had Guy getting drafted at all.

The Seattle Seahawks selected DT Jaye Howard out of Florida with the 114th overall pick (4th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft. Howard is 6’3″, 301 pounds and he has the body type to add a few more pounds to his frame. Howard was a DE and power forward in high school, so he’s a darn good athlete for a tackle. But, he has big time trouble trying to fight through double teams and that is likely to be an issue in the pros. He played in 13 games (all starts) at Florida last year and he had 65 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 5.5 sacks, 1 batted down balls and 2 fumble recoveries. Howard played in 45 games (25 starts) in his four years with the Gators and he had 131 tackles, 27.5 tackles for a loss, 2 batted down balls and 3 fumble recoveries. Howard has a nice upside, so I like the pick even though the Seahawks might have took him a tad early.

The Seattle Seahawks selected QB Russell Wilson out of Wisconsin with the 75th overall pick (3rd round) of the 2012 NFL Draft. Wilson is only 5’10″, but he weighs in at 203 pounds and he runs a 4.6 40. Wilson is a great athlete, but he tends to take off running a little to early at times. Wilson has a big time arm and he doesn’t often throw the ball where he shouldn’t as he protects the football well. Wilson played in 14 games (all starts) at Wisconsin last year and he completed 225 of 309 passes (72.8%) for 3,175 yards with 33 TD passes and 4 INTs. He played in 51 games (50 starts) in his four years at North Carolina State & Wisconsin in which he completed 907 of 1,489 passes (60.9%) for 11,720 yards with 109 TD passes and only 30 interceptions. Wilson is likely just going to hold a clipboard for a couple of years in Seattle, but he could be a starter for them at some point down the road if Matt Flynn doesn’t work out.
