Seattle Seahawks vs Tennessee Titans preview

Blogged under Bloglockers, If I Were a Betting Man, This Week's Matchup Report, General Hawks Squawk by Andrew on Saturday 2 January 2010 at 2:54 pm

The Seattle Seahaws (5-10) are taking on the Tennessee Titans (7-8) in a meaningless game to wrap up their 2009 season.  The Seahawks should still come out and play with some pride though, and if they don’t Chris Johnson and the Titans will run all over them.  Johnson has had an amazing season for the Titans and he will get his numbers, the Seahawks just cannot make it easy for him.  If they can contain Johnson at all, it will give them a great shot at winning.  They also have to worry about quarterback Vince Young, who can pass or run with the ball at any time.

The Seahawks cannot let the Titans build an early lead, as they are horrible when playing from behind.  Seahawks’ quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has had a very disappointing season, and the last two games have been some of his worst all season.  He has 8 interceptions in the past two outings, and if continues to turn the ball over like that in this game the Seahawks will have no chance.  The Titans don’t have a very good secondary and give up over 26o passing yards per game, so Hasselbeck should have some opportunities to end his season on a good note.  Not too much has gone right for the Seahawks this season though, and with Chris Johnson breaking records I am going with the Titans in this one.

PREDICTION:  Seattle Seahawks 20, Tennessee Titans 28

Seattle Seahawks vs. Green Bay Packers

The Seahawks will likely have a rough go of it this weekend at Lambeau Field.  The Seahawks have lost their last six games on the road against NFL teams (not the Rams) by an average of 19.2 points.  That does not bode well for them this weekend against a Packers’ team that will likely be in a bad frame of mind after losing to the Steelers on the last play of the game last week.  The best chance for the Seahawks to compete in this game is to air it out on offense.  Matt Hasselbeck has a nice set of receivers in Nate Burleson, T.J. Houshmandzadeh and TE John Carlson so they need to put the ball up.  The O-Line will have to keep rookie OLB Clay Matthews out of their backfield to give Hasselbeck the time he needs to throw the football.  Julius Jones and Justin Forsett are probably going to have long days against the Packers who are only allowing 83.6 yards rushing per game and 3.6 yards per carry.

The Seahawks are also likely to have a long day on defense against the Packers’ O.  The Seahawks must get a good pass rush on Aaron Rodgers or he is going to pick them apart.  The bad thing for the Seahawks is that Rodgers moves the ball around while not keying on any WR or TE.  Even if the Seahawks can somehow slow down Rodgers and the passing game Ryan Grant will give them trouble on the ground.

PREDICTION:  PACKERS 34, SEAHAWKS 13

Seattle Seahawks vs. Houston Texans

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General Hawks Squawk by admin on Friday 11 December 2009 at 5:56 pm

The Seahawks are facing a Houston Texans team that has lost their last 4 games by a combined score of 98-79.  Teams like this are hard to deal with because they start to get desperate.  It doesn’t help the Seahawks’ situation that they have only won 1 game on the road this year and it was against the pathetic Rams.  The Texans’ D is equally bad against the run or the pass so the Seahawks should have a good offensive game on Sunday.  I think the Seahawks should come out running the ball in this game with Julius Jones and Justin Forsett against a Texans’ D that is allowing 118.9 yards rushing and 4.6 yards per carry.  If the Seahawks keep DE Mario Williams out of their backfield then Matt Hasselbeck should have a good day throwing the football against a Texans’ D that is allowing 214.3 yards passing per game.

The Texans will come out throwing the ball if Matt Schaub starts the game at QB.  Andre Johnson will demand a double team from the Seahawks as he has caught 70 passes for 1,044 yards (14.9 avg) with 6 TD grabs this season.  That means that Kevin Walter will likely be a busy body for the Texans as he is a poor man’s Wes Welker.  The Seahawks won’t likely be too worried about Ryan Moats or Chris Brown in the running game.

PREDICTION:  SEAHAWKS 21, TEXANS 20

San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General Hawks Squawk by admin on Friday 4 December 2009 at 12:40 pm

This should be a very interesting football game this Sunday.  The Niners are only 1-4 on the road while the Seahawks are 3-2 at home this year.  The Niners won in September against the Seahawks 23-10 in San Fran.  The Niners still think that they can win the NFC West as they play the Cardinals next weekend but in order for that to happen they will have to take care of business in Seattle this week which will be easier said than done.  The Niners should get back to the running game this weekend as Frank Gore is the best player on the offense and they need to start getting the ball back  into his hands more.  The Seahawks are allowing 110.7 yards rushing and 4.3 yards per carry so far this year so Gore should have some success.  Alex Smith has been playing decent lately and the Seahawks don’t rush the passer that well so he should have time to look downfield to throw the ball.  Josh Morgan and Michael Crabtree could be in store for good games against a Seahawks’ D that is allowing 238.1 yards passing per game this year.  But, TE Vernon Davis is Smith’s favorite target so he will also likely get a lot of work on Sunday.

The Seahawks will likely come out throwing the ball early and often against a Niners’ D that is allowing 238.1 yards passing per game so far this year.  Matt Hasselbeck should have the time to locate his WRs as the 49ers don’t have much of a pass rush.  With that in mind T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Nate Burleson could have great games this weekend.  TE John Carlson should also be successful this weekend working the short stuff over the middle of the field.  Justin Forsett will likely have a hard time finding much running room against the nasty Patrick Willis in the middle of the Niners’ D.

PREDICTION:  SEAHAWKS 27, 49ERS 23

Seattle Seahawks vs. St. Louis Rams

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General Hawks Squawk by admin on Friday 27 November 2009 at 12:45 pm

The Seahawks have won nine games in a row including a 28-0 beat-down in Seattle to open the season.  But, the Seahawks are 0-5 on the road this season and they have been outscored a combined 161-73!  Before Rams’ fans get too excited those games were against the Vikings, Colts, Cardinals, Cowboys and 49ers who are all superior teams to the Rams.  The Seahawks will likely try to jump the Rams early with the passing game in an attempt to get a quick lead which would force the Rams to throw more instead of handing the ball to Steven Jackson.  If Hasselbeck gets the time he needs to throw the ball he should be able to get it to WRs T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Nate Burleson and TE John Carlson.  Justin Forsett had a rough first game as the starting RB for the Seahawks against the Vikings but he should be able to find a lot more running room against the Rams who are allowing 146.4 yards rushing and 4.7 yards per carry this year.

The Rams have really played pretty well the last three weeks winning one of them (vs. Lions) and losing 2 of them (vs. Saints and Cardinals).  The Rams will likely feed the ball to Steven Jackson as much as possible in this game as the Seahawks are allowing 110.5 yards rushing and 4.3 yards per carry.  The passing game might be of the deeper variety this week for the Rams as Kyle Boller will be starting for the injured Marc Bulger (broken leg).  The Seahawks are allowing 236.8 yards passing per game so far this season and opposing QBs have a 96.5 Rating against them so the Rams could have some success throwing the ball.

PREDICTION:  RAMS 27, SEAHAWKS 23
