The Seahawks have picked TE Anthony McCoy out of USC with the 185th overall pick (6th round) of the NFL Draft.  McCoy is 6′4″, 245 pounds and he runs a 4.75 40.  McCoy has a lot of untapped potential and Coach Carroll knows it from their days together at USC.  He played in 10 games (9 starts) at USC last season in which he caught 22 passes for 457 yards (20.8 avg) with 1 TD grab.  McCoy played in 40 games (22 starts) in his four years at USC in which he caught 46 passes for 731 yards (15.9 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  McCoy was a player worth taking a chance on as head coach Pete Carroll knows him better than any other NFL coach.

The Seattle Seahawks pick safety Kam Chancellor in the 5th round

The Seahawks have picked safety Kam Chancellor with the 133rd overall pick (5th round) of the NFL Draft.  Chancellor is 6′3″, 225 pounds and he runs a 4.6 40.  He has some troubles with his pass defense so the Seahawks might think of converting him into a OLB down the road.  Chancellor played in 13 games (all starts) for Virginia Tech last season in which he had 68 tackles, broke up 5 passes, he had 2 interceptions and he recovered a fumble.  Chancellor played in 53 games (41 starts) in his four years with the Hokies in which he had 208 tackles, broke up 19 passes, he had 6 interceptions, forced 2 fumbles and he had 1 fumble recovery.  This was another solid pick for the Seahawks as Chancellor can help out at safety and OLB as well as on special teams.

The Seattle Seahawks pick DE E.J. Wilson in the 4th round

The Seahawks have picked DE E.J. Wilson with the 127th overall pick (4th round) of the NFL Draft.  Wilson is a big end at 6′2″, 286 pounds and he runs a 4.9 40.  Wilson is a solid run defender and his pass rush is of the bull variety.  He played in 13 games for North Carolina last season and he had 49 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, 4 sacks, he forced 3 fumbles and he had 2 fumble recoveries.  In four years with the Tar Heels, Wilson played in 50 games in which he made 150 tackles, 29 tackles for a loss, 12 sacks, he batted down 2 passes, has forced 3 fumbles and he has 4 fumble recoveries.  Wilson was a bit of a reach in the 4th round but maybe the Seahawks will be able to coach him up.

The Seattle Seahawks pick CB Walter Thurmond in the 4th round

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Draft Report, Front Page, General Hawks Squawk by admin on Thursday 13 May 2010 at 6:42 pm

The Seahawks have picked CB Walter Thurmond with the 111th overall pick (4th round) of the NFL Draft.  Thurmond is 5′10″, 185 pounds and he runs a 4.45 40 when healthy.  He slipped on a lot of draft boards because he blew out his knee.  With that in mind the Seahawks are getting a solid player who could develop into a starter down the road.  He is a good cover corner who could also return punts and kicks if the need arises for the Seahawks.  Thurmond played in 4 games (all starts) for Oregon last season and he had 17 tackles, he broke up 2 passes and he had 1 interception.  He played in 41 games (40 starts) in his four years with the Ducks in which he had 253 tackles, he broke up 37 passes, had 12 interceptions (252 return yards), he forced 1 fumble and he recovered 1 fumble.  Thurmond has a nice upside and he was a solid pick for the Seahawks.

The Seattle Seahawks acquire LenDale White and Kevin Vickerson from the Titans

The Seahawks acquired 25-year old RB LenDale White and 27-year old DT Kevin Vickerson from the Titans to move down in both the 4th and 6th rounds.  White played under Pete Carroll at USC so he should fit right in with the Seahawks.  White played in 13 games for the Titans last season and he carried the ball 64 times for 222 yards (3.5 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  He also caught 3 passes for 14 yards (4.7 avg) last season.  In his four years in the NFL, White has played in 58 games in which he has carried the ball 628 times for 2,349 yards (3.7 ypc) with 24 TD runs and he also caught 42 passes for 204 yards (4.9 avg).  White will give the Seahawks a power runner which is something they have not had since Shaun Alexander left town.  Kevin Vickerson is a big guy at 6′5″, 305 pounds and he will give the Seahawks another big body for the D-Line rotation.  Vickerson played in 13 games for the Titans last season and he had 28 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and he defensed 3 passes.  He played in 24 games in his three years with the Titans and he finished up with 45 tackles, 4 passes defensed and he has 1.5 sacks.  This was a outstanding trade for the Seahawks who only traded down so they added two players without giving up any.
