The Seattle Seahawks did pretty good for themselves last April

The Seahawks got themselves some players that will help out in the future last April.  OLB Aaron Curry (Wake Forest) was the first round pick (#4 overall) for the Seahawks and he showed a lot of potential in 2009.  He played in 14 games last season for the Seahawks and he made 61 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, he had 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and he defensed 6 passes.  Curry will likely improve as his career goes on.  6′5″, 309 pound Max Unger was a second round pick (#49 overall) for the Seahawks out of Oregon.  He played in 16 games (all starts) for the Seahawks last season and he looks like he will be a starter for a long time for them.  WR Deon Butler out of Penn State was the 3rd round pick (#91 overall) for the Seahawks last season.  He played in all 16 games for the Seahawks last season and he caught 15 passes for 175 yards (11.7 avg).  He also returned 1 kickoff for 16 yards and he also had 4 tackles on special teams.  QB Mike Teel was the #3 QB for the Seahawks last season and he will likely serve that role again in 2010.  He was a 6th round pick last April (#178 overall) out of Rutgers.  DE Nick Reed (Oregon) was a find in the 7th round (#247 overall) for the Seahawks last season.  He played in all 16 games for the Seahawks last season and he made 17 tackles, defensed 2 passes and he had 1 sack.  TE Ameron Morrah out of California was the Seahawks last pick in the draft last April (7th round, #248 overall).  He played in 3 games and he caught 1 pass for 3 yards.  Safety Courtney Greene (7th round, #245 overall) out of Rutgers didn’t make the team.

2. (49) Max Unger, C

The Seahawks were happy to see Max Unger slide to them in the 2nd round of the NFL Draft.  He is one of a very few offensive lineman who could start at center, guard or tackle.  But, Unger’s best position is at center where he is a good run and pass blocker.  He’s very adept at chipping defenders to help out his fellow linemen.  The 6′4″, 299 pound Unger played in 51 games (all starts) in his 4 year career at Oregon.

1. (4) Aaron Curry, OLB

The Seahawks resisted taking QB Mark Sanchez instead going with likely their highest rated defensive player in outside linebacker Aaron Curry.  Curry is a big guy at 6′1″, 250 and he runs a 4.61 40.  He can handle either outside or inside linebacker and he’s very strong in most areas of his game.  Curry played in 51 games (49 starts) at Wake Forest and he made 332 tackles, had 45.5 tackles for a loss, had 9.5 sacks, broke up 15 passes and he had 6 interceptions.  This was a outstanding pick for the Seahawks who needed a lot of help at linebacker and Curry will definately give it to them.

The Seattle Seahawks didn’t get much production from the 2008 NFL Draft

The Seahawks needed more from the 2008 Draft Class.  1st rounder (DE) Lawrence Jackson played in all 16 games (14 starts) for the Seahawks last season and he made 29 tackles and had 2 sacks.  The Seahawks expecting a lot more than that out of him.  2nd rounder (TE) John Carlson was easily the best player the Seahawks picked last April.  He played in all 16 games (9 starts) for the Seahawks last season and he caught 55 passes for 627 yards (11.4 avg) with 5 TD grabs.  Carlson also helped out on special teams as he made 7 tackles and forced a fumble.  He might have Pro Bowls in the very near future.  DT Red Bryant was taken in the 4th round by the Seahawks and he played in 4 games (0 starts) making 8 tackles.  Fullback Owen Schmitt (5th round) played in 15 games (1 start) last season for the Seahawks and he carried the ball 5 times for 21 yards (4.2 ypc).  He also caught 6 passes for 29 yards (4.8 avg) and made 5 tackles.  In the 6th round the Seahawks selected long snapper Tyler Schmitt who missed his rookie season with a back injury.  7th rounder (RB) Justin Forsett was actually released before the season starter.  He played for a while with the Colts before the Seahawks got him back.  He didn’t carry the ball but he was a asset on special teams.  Forsett played in 11 games (0 starts) with the Colts and Seahawks and he returned 27 punts for 263 yards (9.7 avg).  Forsett also returned 18 kickoffs for 422 yards (23.4 avg) last season.  The other 7th round pick the Seahawks made last season was kicked Brandon Coutu who didn’t get on the field as a rookie.

The Seattle Seahawks acquire WR Keary Colbert from the Broncos

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Draft Report, Front Page, Seahawks Headlines, General Hawks Squawk by admin on Tuesday 16 September 2008 at 5:25 pm

The Seahawks have acquired WR Keary Colbert from the Denver Broncos for a undisclosed late round draft pick.  Colbert played in both games this season for the Broncos but he didn’t catch any passes.  Colbert has played in 57 games (42 starts) in his NFL career and he has caught 109 passes for 1,424 yards (13.1 avg) with 7 TD grabs.  He also has carried the ball 1 time for 6 yards.  This was a good move for the desperate Seahawks who need to audition any player that can catch a forward pass.
