The Seattle Seahawks are sending safety Earl Thomas to the Pro Bowl

22-year old safety Earl Thomas is heading to Hawaii after the regular season is over as he will be playing in the Pro Bowl.  Thomas played in 15 games for the Seahawks so far this year and he has 92 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, 2 fumble recoveries, 6 passes defensed and 2 interceptions.  He has now played in 31 games in his first two years with the Seahawks and he has 168 tackles, 7 interceptions, 13 passes defensed, 6 tackles for a loss, 1 forced fumble and 2 fumble recoveries.  The best is yet to come from Earl Thomas in the coming years.

The Seattle Seahawks deal LB Aaron Curry to the Raiders

The Seahawks have dealt 25-year old linebacker Aaron Curry to the Oakland Raiders for a 7th round pick in 2012 and a conditional mid round pick in 2013.  Curry played in all five games for the Seahawks this year and he had 22 tackles and 2 passes defensed.  He played in 35 games in his three years with the Seahawks and he had 156 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 9 passes defensed and 9 tackles for a loss.  Curry never lived up to the expectations the Seahawks had of him when they picked him in the first round of the NFL Draft in 2009.

The Seattle Seahawks claim DT Al Woods off waivers from the Bucs

The Seattle Seahawks have claimed 24-year old DT Al Woods off waivers from the Buccaneers.  He played in 9 games as a rookie for the Bucs last year and he had 17 tackles and 1/2 a sack.  Woods got caught up in a numbers game in Tampa, but in Seattle, he will have a legit shot to contribute in 2011.

The Seattle Seahawks claim Landon Cohen waivers

The Seahawks have claimed 25-year old DT Landon Cohen off waivers from the Patriots.  Cohen played in 4 games for the Patriots and Jaguars last year and he had 5 tackles.  Cohen has now played in 24 games in his first three years in the NFL and he has 30 tackles and 5 tackles for a loss.  The Seahawks are desperate for help on the D-Line and that led to this move.

UPDATE:  (9/10/2011) – The Seahawks have released Landon Cohen.

The Seattle Seahawks claim kicker Steve Hauschka off waivers

The Seahawks have claimed 26-year old kicker Steve Hauschka off waivers from the Broncos.  Hauschka played in 4 games for the Broncos last year and he connected on 6 of 7 field goals (85.7%) and he also nailed all 10 of his extra points, good for 28 points.  He has now played in 21 games (0 starts) in his first three years in the NFL and he has made 16 of 22 field goals (72.7%).  Hauschka has also connected on 37 of 38 extra points as he now has 85 points in his NFL career.  He will take over as the Seahawks new placekicker as the 2011 season begins.

The Seattle Seahawks acquire DT Clinton McDonald from the Bengals

The Seattle Seahawks have acquired 24-year old DT Clinton McDonald from the Bengals for 28-year old CB Kelly Jennings.  McDonald played in 8 games as a rookie last year for the Bengals and he had 4 tackles.  He will provide depth on the interior of the D-Line for the Seahawks in 2011.  Kelly Jennings played in 14 games for the Seahawks last year and he had 40 tackles, 1 interception and 13 passes defensed.  He played in 78 games in his five years with the Seahawks and he had 208 tackles, 2 interceptions, 48 passes defensed, 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries and 1 tackle for a loss.  This was little more than a salary dump move for he Seahawks as Jennings is a much better football player than McDonald is.

The Seattle Seahawks re-sign DE Raheem Brock

The Seattle Seahawks have re-signed 33-year old DE Raheem Brock.  Brock played in all 16 games for the Seahawks last year and he had 32 tackles, 9 sacks, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and 3 passes defensed.  Brock has now played in 136 games in his first 9 years in the NFL and he has 320 tackles, 37.5 sacks, 27 tackles for a loss, 12 forced fumbles, 16 fumble recoveries and 19 passes defensed.  This was a smart move for the Seahawks as Brock played the best football of his career in 2010 with them.

The Seattle Seahawks claim RB Thomas Clayton off waivers

The Seahawks have claimed 27-year old RB Thomas Clayton off waivers from the Patriots.  He played in 3 games for the Browns & Patriots last year and he carried the ball 7 times for 17 yards (2.4 ypc).  That is the extent of Clayton’s NFL career so far.  The Seahawks will give Clayton a chance to make the team as a backup RB/special teams player in training camp.

The Seattle Seahawks release LB Lofa Tatupu

The Seahawks have released 28-year old linebacker Lofa Tatupu.  Tatupu played in all 16 games for the Seahawks last season and he had 88 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 8 passes defensed and 1 interception (He returned it for a TD).  Tatupu played in 84 games in his six years with the Seahawks and he has 550 tackles, 23 tackles for a loss, 8.5 sacks, 7 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 39 passes defensed and 10 interceptions (2 returned for TDs).  The Seahawks might regret letting go of Tatupu as he was still a solid linebacker for them last year.

The Seattle Seahawks re-sign Leroy Hill

The Seahawks have re-signed 28-year old linebacker Leroy Hill.  Hill didn’t play last year due to injury.  Hill has played in 67 games in his first six years with the Seahawks and he has 375 tackles, 22 tackles for a loss, 14.5 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 11 passes defensed.  This was a smart move for the Seahawks as Hill is a very solid linebacker when he’s healthy.
