The Seahawks have released 29-year old RB Julius Jones.  Jones played in 3 games for the Seahawks this year and he carried the ball 12 times for 30 yards (2.5 ypc).  Jones played in 32 games in his three years with the Seahawks and he carried the ball 347 times for 1,391 yards (4.0 ypc) with 4 TD runs.  He also caught 49 passes for 308 yards (6.3 avg) with 2 TD grabs for the Seahawks.  The Seahawks won’t miss Jones even if he hooks on with another team as they still have Forsett and Washington to go along with the newly acquired Marshawn Lynch.

The Seattle Seahawks release three players

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 29 September 2010 at 2:23 pm

The Seahawks have released 25-year old G Mansfield Wrotto, 24-year old guard Mike Gibson and 26-year old running back Quinton Ganther.  Wrotto played in 2 games (0 starts) for the Seahawks this year and he has played in 16 games (5 starts) in his four years in Seattle.  Gibson played in 3 games (1 start) for the Seahawks this year and he played in 6 games (1 start) in two years with Seattle.  Quinton Ganther played in 2 games this season for the Seahawks but he didn’t get to touch the ball.  I don’t think the Seahawks will miss any of these guys too much.

The Seahawks have released 30-year old DT Craig Terrill.  Terrill played in 13 games (1 start) for the Seahawks last season and he had 11 tackles, 1 sack and 1 pass defensed.  He played in 76 games (4 starts) in his six years with the Seahawks and he had 93 tackles, 8 sacks and 5 passes defensed.  The housecleaning continues in Seattle.

The Seattle Seahawks jettison Owen Schmitt

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Leaving Town by admin on Monday 6 September 2010 at 7:18 pm

The Seahawks continued to clean house by cutting 25-year old fullback Owen Schmitt.  Schmitt played in 15 games (1 start) for the Seahawks last season and he caught 6 passes for 21 yards (3.5 avg) with 1 TD grab.  He has played in 30 games (2 starts) in his two years with the Seahawks and he carried the ball 5 times for 21 yards (4.2 ypc).  Schmitt also caught 12 passes for 50 yards (4.2 avg) with 1 TD grab for the Seahawks.  This move leaves the Seahawks without a true blocking back and they might be sorry that they let Schmitt go down the road.

The Seattle Seahawks release safety Jordan Babineaux

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Leaving Town by admin on Monday 6 September 2010 at 7:16 pm

The Seahawks have released 28-year old safety Jordan Babineaux.  Babineaux played in 16 games (all starts) for the Seahawks last season and he had 104 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 6 passes defensed, 2 interceptions and 1 forced fumble.  He played in 83 games (29 starts) in his six years with the Seahawks and he had 365 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 20 passes defensed, 8 interceptions (1 returned for a TD) and he forced 6 fumbles.  This was a surprising move for the Seahawks as Babineaux will likely hook up with a new team soon.

UPDATE:  (9/10/2010) – The Seahawks re-signed Babineaux.

The Seattle Seahawks release T.J. Houshmandzadeh

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 5 September 2010 at 4:54 pm

The Seahawks have released 32-year old WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh.  Houshmandzadeh played in 16 games (all starts) in his only year with the Seahawks and he caught 79 passes for 911 yards (11.5 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  It’s hard to know what the Seahawks are thinking here as no other team cut their best WR today.  They are going into the season with Mike Williams & Deion Branch as the starting WRs….yuck!

The Seattle Seahawks release LenDale White

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Leaving Town by admin on Friday 28 May 2010 at 8:51 pm

The Seahawks have released running back LenDale White.  Despite coming to Seattle in great shape word is that he wasn’t ready to give his all for the Seahawks which led to his shocking release especially when you consider that his college coach (Pete Carroll) was cutting him loose.  White could face a four game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy but the team said that had nothing to do with his release.

Patrick Kerney decides to retire from the Seattle Seahawks

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 14 April 2010 at 7:26 am

33-year old DE Patrick Kerney has decided to retire from the NFL.  He played in 15 games for the Seahawks last season and he had 34 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.  Kerney played in 38 games in his 3 years in Seattle in which he had 115 tackles, 5 passes defensed, 24.5 sacks, he forced 9 fumbles and he intercepted 1 pass.  Kerney did the Seahawks a favor by retiring before the NFL Draft giving the team one more hole to fill next weekend.

The Seattle Seahawks release two players

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 7 April 2010 at 9:09 am

The Seahawks have released 30-year old TE John Owens and 25-year old RB Xavier Omon.  Owens caught 3 passes for 16 yards (5.3 avg) last season.  Omon didn’t even get to play in a game with the Seahawks before his departure.  The Seahawks won’t lose any sleep over letting these guys go.

The Seattle Seahawks release Deon Grant

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Leaving Town,Seahawks Headlines by admin on Tuesday 16 March 2010 at 11:20 am

The Seahawks have released 31-year old safety Deon Grant.  Grant played in all 16 games for the Seahawks last season and he had 78 tackles, 8 passes defensed, 1 forced fumble and 3 interceptions.  Grant played in 48 games in his 3 years with the Seahawks in which he made 234 tackles, forced 1 fumble, defensed 26 passes and he intercepted 8 passes.  Add another position to the need list of the Seahawks this off-season as Grant won’t be too easy to replace.
