The Seahawks have signed 26-year old G/T Mike Gibson.  Gibson played in 14 games (8 starts) for the Seahawks last year.  He has now played in 17 games (8 starts) in his first two years in the NFL.  The Seahawks were lucky that Gibson didn’t hook on with another team this year.  The Seahawks might need to throw Gibson into the fire right away due to all of the injuries they have suffered so far this year.

The Seahawks have signed 27-year old OT Allen Barbre to a 1-year deal.  Barbre played in 3 games (0 starts) last year for the Seahawks.  He has now played in 28 games (7 starts) in his first four years in the NFL.  The Seahawks have had a ton of injuries along the O-Line, so it was smart of the team to pick up a player that already knows their system.

The Seattle Seahawks have signed 29-year old linebacker Heath Farwell.  Farwell played in all 16 games for the Vikings last year and he had 16 tackles.  Farwell has now played in 71 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has 100 tackles and three fumble recoveries.  This was a good move for the Seahawks as Farwell is a special teams ace.

The Seahawks have signed 25-year old LB David Vobora.  He played in 14 games for the Rams last year and he had 36 tackles and 2 sacks.  Vobora has now played in 34 games in his first three years in the NFL and he has 98 tackles, 2 sacks, 5 tackles for a loss, 1 forced fumble and 2 passes defensed.  The Seahawks need a lot of help at linebacker so they were lucky that Vobora was still available.

UPDATE II:  (9/6/2011) – The Seahawks have re-signed David Vobora.

The Seattle Seahawks sign safety Atari Bigby

The Seahawks have signed 29-year old safety Atari Bigby.  Bigby played in 4 games for the Packers last year and he had 6 tackles and 1 fumble recovery.  Bigby has now played in 45 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has 164 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 19 passes defensed and 10 interceptions.  This was a good pickup for the Seahawks because Bigby is a solid safety when he is healthy.

The Seattle Seahawks sign kicker Jeff Reed

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Friday 5 August 2011 at 9:05 pm

The Seahawks have signed 32-year old kicker Jeff Reed.  Reed played in 14 games for the 49ers and Steelers last year and he connected on 24 of 32 (75%) field goals.  He also connected on all 32 of his extra point attempts as he finished up with 104 points last year.  Reed has played in 132 games in his first 9 years in the NFL and he has made 213 of 259 field goals (82.2%).  He also has connected on 320 of 323 extra points as he has scored 959 points in his NFL career.  Reed has made his fair share of big kicks with the Steelers so he should be able to at least perform as well as Olindo Mare did for the Seahawks.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Seahawks have released Jeff Reed.

The Seattle Seahawks sign TE Zach Miller

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Wednesday 3 August 2011 at 2:52 pm

The Seahawks have signed 25-year old TE Zach Miller to a 5-year, $34 million dollar deal.  Miller played in 15 games (all starts) for the Raiders last year and he caught 60 passes for 685 yards (11.4 avg) with 5 TD grabs.  He has now played in 62 games (61 starts) in his first four years in the NFL and he has caught 226 passes for 2,712 yards (12.0 avg) with 12 TD grabs.  Miller has already made it to 1 Pro Bowl and he’s good enough to get to more of them with the Seahawks.  He is a outstanding TE who will really aid the Seahawks’ passing game.  I love this pickup for the Seahawks.

The Seattle Seahawks sign DT Jimmy Wilkerson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 3 August 2011 at 2:50 pm

The Seahawks have signed 30-year old DT Jimmy Wilkerson.  Wilkerson played in all 16 games for the Saints last year and he had 14 tackles and 2 sacks.  He has now played in 119 games in his first 8 years in the NFL and he has 179 tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, 14 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 8 passes defensed.  Wilkerson will give the Seahawks some depth on the interior of the D-Line so this year.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Seahawks have placed Jimmy Wilkerson on the Injured Reserve List due to a knee injury.
