The Seattle Seahawks sign TE Zach Miller

The Seahawks have signed 25-year old TE Zach Miller to a 5-year, $34 million dollar deal.  Miller played in 15 games (all starts) for the Raiders last year and he caught 60 passes for 685 yards (11.4 avg) with 5 TD grabs.  He has now played in 62 games (61 starts) in his first four years in the NFL and he has caught 226 passes for 2,712 yards (12.0 avg) with 12 TD grabs.  Miller has already made it to 1 Pro Bowl and he’s good enough to get to more of them with the Seahawks.  He is a outstanding TE who will really aid the Seahawks’ passing game.  I love this pickup for the Seahawks.

The Seattle Seahawks sign DT Jimmy Wilkerson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 3 August 2011 at 2:50 pm

The Seahawks have signed 30-year old DT Jimmy Wilkerson.  Wilkerson played in all 16 games for the Saints last year and he had 14 tackles and 2 sacks.  He has now played in 119 games in his first 8 years in the NFL and he has 179 tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, 14 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 8 passes defensed.  Wilkerson will give the Seahawks some depth on the interior of the D-Line so this year.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Seahawks have placed Jimmy Wilkerson on the Injured Reserve List due to a knee injury.

The Seattle Seahawks sign DT Ryan Sims

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Tuesday 2 August 2011 at 3:36 am

The Seahawks have signed 31-year old DT Ryan Sims.  Sims played in 6 games for the Buccaneers last year and he had 4 tackles.  He has now played in 105 games in his first 9 years in the NFL and he has 143 tackles, 17 tackles for a loss, 8.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries, 5 passes defensed and 1 interception.  I’m not so sure that Sims has much left in the gas tank but the Seahawks needed more depth at DT so this signing still makes sense.

UPDATE:  (8/22/2011) – The Seahawks have released Ryan Sims.

The Seattle Seahawks sign DT Alan Branch

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Seahawks Headlines by admin on Saturday 30 July 2011 at 2:24 pm

The Seattle Seahawks have signed 26-year old DT Alan Branch to a 2-year, $8 million dollar deal.  Branch played in all 16 games for the Cardinals last year and he had 35 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 1 pass defensed.  Branch has now played in 47 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 68 tackles, 6 tackles for a loss, 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 3 passes defensed.  This signing will help the interior of the Seahawks’ defense while hurting the division rival Cardinals at the same time.

The Seattle Seahawks have signed WR Sidney Rice

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Seahawks Headlines by admin on Thursday 28 July 2011 at 3:22 pm

The Seahawks have signed 24-year old WR Sidney Rice to a 5-year, $41 million dollar deal.  Rice played in 6 games (5 starts) for the Vikings last year and he caught 17 passes for 280 yards (16.5 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  Rice has now played in 48 games (26 starts) in his first four years in the NFL and he has caught 146 passes for 2,129 yards (14.6 avg) with 18 TD grabs.  This was an excellent signing for the Seahawks as they now have a legit #1 WR.  The bonus is that he has played his whole career so far with new Seahawks’ QB Tarvaris Jackson.

The Seattle Seahawks sign OG Robert Gallery

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Seahawks Headlines by admin on Thursday 28 July 2011 at 3:19 pm

The Seahawks have signed 31-year old OG Robert Gallery to a 3-year deal.  Gallery is a giant at 6’7″, 325 pounds.  He should help the interior of the Seahawks’ offensive line.  Gallery played in 12 games (all starts) for the Raiders last year.  He has now played in 92 games (91 starts) in his first 7 years in the NFL.  Gallery will reunite with offensive line coach Tom Cable who was his head coach in Oakland.  This is a good move for the Seahawks.

The Seattle Seahawks have signed Tarvaris Jackson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Seahawks Headlines by admin on Tuesday 26 July 2011 at 11:26 pm

The Seattle Seahawks have signed 28-year old QB Tarvaris Jackson.  Jackson played in 3 games (1 start) for the Vikings last year and he completed 34 of 58 passes (58.6%) for 341 yards with 3 TD passes and 4 INTs (63.9 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 7 times for 63 yards (9.0 ypc) last year as he is a very good runner.  Jackson has now played in 36 games (20 starts) in his first five years in the NFL and he has completed 354 of 603 passes (58.7%) for 3,984 yards with 24 TD passes and 22 INTs (76.6 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 119 times for 535 yards (4.5 ypc) with 4 TD runs so far in his NFL career.  Jackson is 10-10 (50%) as a starting QB in the NFL.  The terms of his contract have not been disclosed yet but he’s likely to be the Seahawks’ starting QB in 2011 providing he can beat out Charlie Whitehurst for the job.

UPDATE:  (7/28/2011) – Jackson’s contract is for 2 years and $8 million bucks.

The Seattle Seahawks ink Nate Davis

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Wednesday 12 January 2011 at 4:11 am

The Seattle Seahawks have signed 23-year old QB Nate Davis.  Davis is a big guy at 6’2″, 226 pounds and he has a big time arm but no regular season appearances in games.  He was a 5th round pick in 2009 out of Ball State by the San Francisco 49ers.  He played well in the pre-season for the Niners but he was always in the Dog House for not learning the playbook.  Davis will be an insurance policy behind Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst in case of injury.

The Seattle Seahawks sign Amon Gordon

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Thursday 25 November 2010 at 11:07 pm

The Seahawks have signed 29-year old DT Amon Gordon.  Gordon played in 3 games for the Titans earlier this year and he had 2 tackles.  He has now played in 16 games in his NFL career and he has 31 tackles and 1 forced fumble.  This should help the depth of the Seahawks’ D-Line but don’t expect miracles out of him.

The Seattle Seahawks re-sign J.P. Losman

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Wednesday 10 November 2010 at 10:37 pm

The Seahawks have re-signed 29-year old QB J.P. Losman after losing rookie QB Zac Robinson on waivers to the Lions.  Losman was one of the last cuts the Seahawks made before the 2010 season started.  He has played in 43 games (33 starts) so far in his NFL career and he has completed 558 of 942 passes (59.2%) for 6,211 yards with 33 TD passes and 34 INTs (75.6 QB Rating).  Losman has also carried the ball 103 times for 489 yards (4.7 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  Losman will be the Seahawks’ #3 QB behind Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst.
