Seattle Seahawks (4-7) vs. Philadelphia Eagles (4-7)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Thursday 1 December 2011 at 1:37 pm

The Seattle Seahawks need to rebound from a tough loss at home last weekend to the Washington Redskins.  They have played solid football at home, so they might have a big effort tonight.  The Eagles are a very talented team that just hasn’t lived up to the hype this year.  They have lost three of their last four games.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Seahawks have the ball:  The Seahawks are going to ride Marshawn Lynch tonight.  He has been running really well lately.  If Lynch runs well tonight, it will help slow the Eagles’ pass rush and give Tarvaris Jackson a chance to make some plays downfield in the passing game.  WR Doug Baldwin is now the unquestioned go-to WR for the Seahawks, but the Eagles are going to give him a lot of special attention tonight.  So, Ben Obomanu, Golden Tate, Mike Williams and/or TE Zach Miller are going to have to step up in the passing game tonight.

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Seahawks will likely focus on stopping Lesean McCoy in this game.  The Seahawks  are only giving up 3.5 yards per carry this year, so they should be up to the task at hand as McCoy is playing with a toe injury.  The Seahawks will also need to contain Vince Young in the pocket, but, even if they don’t…he’s nowhere near the runner that Michael Vick is.  The Seahawks secondary should be able to make some plays against Vince Young, as he sometimes throws the ball up for grabs.

Marshawn Lynch is starting to pick up the pace for the Seattle Seahawks

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Steppin Up by admin on Wednesday 30 November 2011 at 10:56 pm

25-year old RB Marshawn Lynch has really played well lately for the Seahawks.  In his last four games, Lynch has carried the ball 106 times for 443 yards (4.2 ypc) with 3 TD runs and he has also caught 9 passes for 87 yards (9.7 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Lynch has now played in 10 games for the Seahawks this year and he has carried the ball 180 times for 706 yards (3.9 ypc) with 6 TD runs.  He has also caught 20 passes for 170 yards (8.5 avg) with 1 TD grab this year.  The offense has really picked up lately for the Seahawks and it’s because Lynch has given it more balance.

The Seattle Seahawks place Sidney Rice on I.R.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 30 November 2011 at 10:53 pm

The Seahawks have placed 25-year old WR Sidney Rice on the Injured Reserve List due to a nasty concussion.  Rice played in 9 games in his first year with the Seahawks and he caught 32 passes for 484 yards (15.1 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  He has now played in 57 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has caught 178 passes for 2,613 (14.7 avg) with 20 TD catches.  Rice was a solid player with the Vikings, so you would have to hope that he picks up the pace next year for the Seahawks.

The Seattle Seahawks place David Vobora on I.R. and claim Adrian Moten off waivers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 29 November 2011 at 11:52 pm

The Seattle Seahawks have placed 25-year old David Vobora on the Injured Reserve List, ending his season due to a shoulder injury.  Vobora played in 6 games for the Seahawks this year but he didn’t have any tackles.  Vobora has now played in 40 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 98 tackles, 2 sacks, 5 tackles for a loss, 1 forced fumble and 2 passes defensed.  The Seahawks have claimed 23-year old, undrafted rookie Adrian Moten off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts.  Moten played in 10 games for the Colts this year and he had 7 tackles.

The Sehawks choked today as the Redskins scored 16 unanswered points in the last 9:51 of the game today!  Tarvaris Jackson was so-so today as he completed 14 of 30 passes for 144 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT.  Marshawn Lynch had a very solid game today for the Seahawks with 111 yards rushing on 24 carries (4.6 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 20 yards which went for a TD.  WRs Doug Baldwin (5 rec, 60 yards), Ben Obomanu (3 rec, 26 yards) and Golden Tate (1 rec, 15 yards, TD) led the way for the Seahawks in the passing game today.  The Seahawks finished up with 124 yards rushing on 30 carries (4.1 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 30 passes (46.7%) for 126 yards as they only had possession of the ball for 26:40.

The defense folded like a tent in the 4th quarter, after playing solid football for three quarters.  LB Leroy Hill (8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss), CB Richard Sherman (7 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception) and LB David Hawthorne (7 tackles) led the way for the Seahawks in this game on D.  CB Brandon Browner pitched in with 5 tackles, 3 passes defensed and 1 interception in this game.  The Redskins finished up with 110 yards rushing on 29 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 26 of 35 passes (74.3%) for 306 yards in this game.  The Seahawks are now 4-7 on the year.

Seattle Seahawks (4-6) vs. Washington Redskins (3-7)

The Seahawks are back on the right track as they have won their last two games.  The Redskins have lost 7 games in a row as their season is spinning out of control.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Seahawks have the ball:  The Seahawks are going to come out running the ball with Marshawn Lynch.  Lynch should have some success this week as the Redskins are giving up 117.3 yards rushing per game and 4.1 yards per carry.  If the Seahawks can establish the running game, Tarvaris Jackson might actually have enough time to throw the ball.  The Redskins are giving up 221.4 yards passing per game so far this year, so Jackson should be able to complete a decent amount of passes this weekend.

When the Redskins have the ball:  The Redskins are going to come out throwing the ball against the Seahawks.  The Seahawks are giving up 233.0 yards passing per game so far this year, so Rex Grossman could have a good game if his good version shows up and the Redskins give him time to throw the ball.  WR Santana Moss will be back giving the Redskins another solid option in the passing game.  The Redskins will try to get a running game going, but Roy Helu and Ryan Torain are going to have a hard time against the Seahawks, who are only giving up 3.5 yards per carry this year.

The Seattle Seahawks sign OT Allen Barbre

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Friday 25 November 2011 at 4:28 am

The Seahawks have signed 27-year old OT Allen Barbre to a 1-year deal.  Barbre played in 3 games (0 starts) last year for the Seahawks.  He has now played in 28 games (7 starts) in his first four years in the NFL.  The Seahawks have had a ton of injuries along the O-Line, so it was smart of the team to pick up a player that already knows their system.

The Seattle Seahawks need someone to step up at QB

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Needs to Step Up by admin on Thursday 24 November 2011 at 3:08 am

28-year old Tarvaris Jackson has been playing injured (pectoral injury) because of how bad Charlie Whitehurst has been this year.  Jackson has played in 10 games for the Seahawks so far this year and he has completed 168 of 278 passes (60.4%) for 1,921 yards with 7 TD passes and 11 INTs (73.1 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 27 times for 96 yards (3.6 ypc) with 1 TD run so far this year.  The Seahawks thought Jackson was going to be much better than he has been this year.  29-year old Charlie Whitehurst has been awful this year for the Seahawks.  He has played in 3 games for the Seahawks so far this year and he has completed 27 of 56 passes (48.2%) for 298 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT (62.9 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 4 times for 13 yards (3.3 ypc) so far this year.  The Seahawks are going to need better play from their QBs if they are going to make a legit run for a Wild Card spot in the next six weeks.

Seattle Seahawks 24, St. Louis Rams 7

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Monday 21 November 2011 at 4:31 pm

The Seattle Seahawks shut down the Rams in a vice yesterday and the offense did enough to make the defensive effort stand up.  Tarvaris Jackson had another off game as he completed 14 of 24 passes for 148 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 INTs.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 10 yards (5.0 ypc) in this game.  Sidney Rice completed a 55-yard pass to Mike Williams in his only attempt.  Marshawn Lynch led the way on the ground for the Seahawks yesterday with 88 yards rushing on 27 carries (3.3 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Justin Forsett pitched in with 31 yards rushing on 4 carries (7.8 ypc) with 1 TD run in this game.  WRs Mike Williams (2 rec, 62 yards), Doug Baldwin (3 rec, 60 yards) and Sidney Rice (3 rec, 35 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Seahawks yesterday.  The Seahawks finished up with 126 yards rushing on 39 carries (3.2 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 25 passes (60%) for 163 yards in this game.  The Seahawks had possession of the ball for 35:00 in this game!

The defense was awesome yesterday as they sacked Sam Bradford 5 times.  DE Chris Clemons had a monster game for the Seahawks yesterday with 5 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 pass defensed and 3 QB hits.  CB Richard Sherman (5 tackles and 2 passes defensed) and LB David Hawthorne (4 tackles and 1 fumble recovery) also had solid games for the Seahawks yesterday.  DT Clinton McDonald (fumble recovery) and DE Red Bryant (interception) made big plays for the Seahawks.  The Rams finished up with 42 yards rushing on 17 carries (2.5 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 40 passes (50%) for 143 yards.  The Seahawks are now 4-6 on the year.

Seattle Seahawks (3-6) vs. St. Louis Rams (2-7)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 19 November 2011 at 5:36 pm

The Seattle Seahawks got a huge win at home against the Ravens last weekend.  They will have to guard against coming out flat tomorrow as they have not played well on the road this year.  The Seahawks are 1-4 on the road this year, where they have been outscored 111-69.  The Rams have played a lot better lately, winning two of their last three games and outscoring their opponents 57-52 in those games.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Seahawks have the ball:  The Seahawks have a lot of injuries along the offensive line.  So they will likely try to run the ball a lot and keep the passing game short.  Marshawn Lynch is a solid RB and he should find a lot of running room against a Rams’ D that is allowing 150.6 yards rushing per game and 5.1 yards per carry so far this year.  Tarvaris Jackson is likely going to have to roll the pocket, using his legs to buy some time to throw the ball.  This is the kind of game that the Seahawks could certainly use TE Zach Miller, if he would just step up.

When the Rams have the ball:  The Rams going to likely be a run first team with Steven Jackson this weekend.  The Seahawks have been solid against the run so far this year as they are allowing 106.4 yards rushing per game but only 3.6 yards per carry.  The Seahawks don’t have much of a pass rush, so they have to hope that DE Chris Clemons can get after Sam Bradford.  The Seahawks are giving up 243.0 passing yards per game, so Bradford is going to make some plays down the field if he has time to throw the ball.  The Seahawks will likely double cover WR Brandon Lloyd and dare Bradford to beat them by throwing to someone else.

PREDICTION:  RAMS 23, SEAHAWKS 20
