Seattle Seahawks 38, Chicago Bears 14

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Monday 19 December 2011 at 4:50 am

The defense was awesome for the Seahawks as the Bears only scored 7 points against them today!  LB K.J. Wright (8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 QB hit), LB David Hawthorne (7 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss), DE Raheem Brock (5 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks and 2 QB hits) and DE Chris Clemons (3 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 pass defensed and 2 QB hits) led the way for the Seahawks on D today.  Safety Earl Thomas (interception and fumble recovery), CB Richard Sherman (interception), DE Red Bryant (an interception that he returned 20 yards for a TD) and CB Brandon Browner (interception with a 42-yard return for a TD) also made HUGE plays for the Seahawks today.  The Bears finished up with 132 yards rushing on 31 carries (4.3 ypc) and they also completed 11 of 25 passes (44%) for 89 yards in this game.

The offense was efficient today for the Seahawks.  Tarvaris Jackson completed 19 of 31 passes for 227 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  He also lost a fumble that was recovered for a TD by DE Isreal Idonije of the Bears.  Marshawn Lynch led the way on the ground with 42 yards rushing on 20 carries (2.1 ypc) with 2 TD runs and he also caught 2 passes for 5 yards today.  WR Golden Tate (4 rec, 61 yards), WR Golden Tate (1 rec, 43 yards) and FB Michael Robinson (1 rec, 2 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game today.  The Seahawks finished up with 60 yards rushing on 33 carries (1.8 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 31 passes (61.3%) for 226 yards as they had possession of the ball for 31:37.  The Seahawks are now 7-7 on the season.

Seattle Seahawks (6-7) vs. Chicago Bears (7-6)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Thursday 15 December 2011 at 4:43 pm

The Seahawks have suddenly got hot as they have won two games in a row and four of their last five games.  The Bears have fallen on hard times as they have lost their last three games, scoring only 33 total points.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Seahawks have the ball:  The Seahawks have been relying more and more on RB Marshawn Lynch and his power running.  The Seahawks are likely going to hand the ball off to him 25-30 times this weekend against a Bears’ D that is giving up 101.7 yards rushing per game and 4.4 yards per carry.  Tarvaris Jackson has suddenly got hot along with Lynch, but he’s more of a game manager type QB.  When teams come up to stop Lynch, that’s when Jackson has been going over the top to WRs Doug Baldwin and Golden Tate.  The Bears are giving up 256.5 yards passing per game, so the Seahawks should have success when they do decide to throw the ball.

When the Bears have the ball:  The Bears’ offense has went into a shell due to QB Caleb Hanie’s inability to complete passes to his own team.  That means that they are going to be very run heavy with Marion Barber and Kahlil Bell splitting the workload.  The Seahawks did a good job of shutting down Steven Jackson last Monday Night, so they should be able to handle slowing down Barber & Bell this weekend.  If the Seahawks get a good pass rush on Caleb Hanie, they are going to pick off some passes this weekend.

PREDICTION:  SEAHAWKS 17, BEARS 13

Tarvaris Jackson is really playing well as of late for the Seattle Seahawks

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Steppin Up by admin on Wednesday 14 December 2011 at 9:03 pm

28-year old QB Tarvaris Jackson has really played well the last two weeks for the Seahawks.  He has completed 34 of 48 passes (70.8%) for 414 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT in his last two games.  The Seahawks have scored 61 points in their last two games and they are 2-0.  Jackson has now played in 12 games overall this year and he has completed 216 of 356 passes (60.7%) for 2,479 yards with 11 TD passes and 12 INTs (77.9 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 34 times for 104 yards (3.1 ypc) so far this year.  The Seahawks hope that Jackson’s play of the last two games is not a mirage.

The Seattle Seahawks lose CB Ron Parker for the rest of the year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 14 December 2011 at 1:47 pm

The Seahawks have placed 24-year old rookie CB Ron Parker on the Injured Reserve List due to an undisclosed injury.  Parker played in 2 games for the Seahawks this year but he didn’t make any tackles.  He played in 5 games overall with the Raiders & Seahawks last year but he didn’t have any tackles.  This is no loss for the Seahawks.

Seattle Seahawks 30, St. Louis Rams 13

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Tuesday 13 December 2011 at 3:45 pm

Seahawks’ WR Doug Baldwin blocked a punt early in this game that was recovered and returned 17 yards for a TD by RB Michael Robinson.  This set the tone for the game as the Seahawks destroyed the Rams last night.  Tarvaris Jackson was solid again for the Seahawks as he completed 21 of 32 passes for 224 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  Marshawn Lynch led the way on the ground as he was excellent with 115 yards rushing on 23 carries (5.0 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also caught 2 passes for 8 yards (4.0 avg) in this game.  WR Doug Baldwin led the way in the air for the Seahawks last night with 7 grabs for 93 yards (13.3 avg) with 1 TD grab.  WR Golden Tate pitched in with 3 catches for 39 yards (13.0 avg) and 1 carry for 14 yards.  The Seahawks rushed for 145 yards on 32 carries (4.5 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 34 passes (61.8%) for 214 yards as they had possession of the ball for 31:29.

The defense was excellent for the Seahawks last night.  LBs David Hawthorne (10 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss) and K.J. Wright (8 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 1 pass defensed and 2 QB hits) led the way for the Seahawks on D in this game.  Safety Kam Chancellor (6 tackles and 2 passes defensed) and CB Brandon Browner (4 tackles, 3 passes defensed and 1 interception) also pitched in for the Seahawks in this game.  The Rams finished up with 114 yards rushing on 31 carries (3.7 ypc) and they also completed 12 of 29 passes (41.4%) for 167 yards.  The Seahawks are now 6-7 on the season.

Seattle Seahawks (5-7) vs. St. Louis Rams (2-10)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 9 December 2011 at 9:32 pm

The Seattle Seahawks are starting to play much better as they have won three of their last four games.  The Seahawks beat the Rams 24-7 in St. Louis, just three weeks ago.  The Rams have lost their last three games by a combined score of 73-27!  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Seahawks have the ball:  The Seahawks are going to feed the ball to Marshawn Lynch this Monday Night.  He will be taking aim at a Rams’ D that is allowing a stunning 157.8 yards rushing per game and 5.0 yards per carry.  The Seahawks passing game will be built around playaction passes.  Tarvaris Jackson doesn’t have a favorite receiver, so look for him to spread the ball around to WRs Doug Baldwin, Ben Obomanu and Golden Tate in this game.

When the Rams have the ball:  The Rams will likely be starting 27-yard old Tom Brandstater at QB and he would be making his NFL debut.  With that in mind, the Seahawks will focus on stopping Steven Jackson.  It won’t be easy, but the Seahawks are only giving up 3.7 yards per carry so far this year….so they should be up to the challenge.  The Seahawks will likely be coming after Brandstater with blitzes in his game as Rams’ QBs have already been sacked 43 times so far this year.  The Seahawks will also likely double team WR Brandon Lloyd and force Brandstater to beat him with his right arm throwing to someone else.

PREDICTION:  SEAHAWKS 23, RAMS 7

The Seattle Seahawks sign G/T Mike Gibson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Wednesday 7 December 2011 at 2:35 pm

The Seahawks have signed 26-year old G/T Mike Gibson.  Gibson played in 14 games (8 starts) for the Seahawks last year.  He has now played in 17 games (8 starts) in his first two years in the NFL.  The Seahawks were lucky that Gibson didn’t hook on with another team this year.  The Seahawks might need to throw Gibson into the fire right away due to all of the injuries they have suffered so far this year.

The Seattle Seahawks need Golden Tate to step up

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Needs to Step Up by admin on Tuesday 6 December 2011 at 8:05 pm

With Sidney Rice down for the season due to injury, the Seahawks need 23-year old WR Golden Tate to step up.  Tate has played in 12 games this year and he has caught 20 passes for 220 yards (11.0 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  In his last two games, Tate has caught 5 passes for 62 yards (12.4 avg) with 2 TD grabs….and the Seahawks need him to keep up the good work.  Tate has played in 23 games in his first two years with the Seahawks and he has caught 41 passes for 447 yards (10.9 avg) with 3 TD grabs.

The Seattle Seahawks lose OT Russell Okung for the rest of the year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Injury Reports by admin on Saturday 3 December 2011 at 1:01 pm

The Seattle Seahawks have placed 24-year old, starting LT Russell Okung on the Injured Reserve List, ending his season due to a torn left pectoral muscle.  He was injured in the game last Thursday against the Eagles.  He played in 12 games (all starts) for the Seahawks this year.  He has now played in 22 games (all starts) in his first two years in the NFL.  This is a big loss for the Seahawks, as Tarvaris Jackson might want to start looking over his shoulder when dropping back to pass.

Seattle Seahawks 31, Philadelphia Eagles 14

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Friday 2 December 2011 at 1:19 pm

The Seahawks totally dominated the Eagles last night in Seattle.  Tarvaris Jackson was excellent last night as a game manager as he completed 13 of 16 passes for 190 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  RB Marshawn Lynch was the star of the show offensively last night for the Seahawks as he carried the ball 22 times for 148 yards (6.7 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  TE Zach Miller (2 rec, 55 yards), WR Golden Tate (4 rec, 47 yards, TD) and WR Michael Robinson (4 rec, 41 yards) led the way in the passing game last night for the Seahawks.  The Seahawks rushed for 174 yards on 33 carries (5.3 ypc) and they also completed 13 of 16 passes (81.3%) for 173 yards as they had possession of the ball for 30:20.
