Minnesota Vikings 24, Seattle Seahawks 13

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,The Pre-Season by admin on Sunday 29 August 2010 at 8:16 pm

The Seahawks didn’t look too good last night in Minnesota especially offensively.  Matt Hasselbeck started at QB and he completed 9 of 17 passes for 126 yards last night.  Charlie Whitehurst finished up the game by completing 12 of 26 passes for 138 yards with 1 INT.  Justin Forsett (6 car, 20 yards) and Leon Washington (6 car, 16 yards) led the way for the Seahawks on the ground last night.  WRs Mike Williams (3 rec, 54 yards) and Ruvell Martin (4 rec, 49 yards) led the way in the air for the Seahawks last night.  The Seahawks finished up with 44 yards rushing (2.9 ypc) and 242 yards passing last night as they only had possession of the ball for 22:52.

Safety Jordan Babineaux led the way for the Seahawks on D last night with 7 tackles.  Lofa Tatupu pitched in with 5 tackles and 1 pass defensed.  Rookie safety Earl Thomas had 2 tackles, 2 passes defensed, 1 tackle for a loss and he also intercepted a pass that he returned 86 yards for a TD.  The Vikings finished up with 112 yards rushing (3.4 ypc) and 246 yards passing in this game.  The Seahawks are now 1-2 on the pre-season.

The Seattle Seahawks lose Russell Okung for a while

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 24 August 2010 at 9:34 pm

The Seahawks will be without rookie LT Russell Okung for the next 2-4 weeks due to a sprained ankle.  The Seahawks hope that he’s ready for the season opener against the 49ers.  That is because 25-year old Mansfield Wrotto would probably start at LT if Okung can’t go.  Wrotto has played in 14 games (5 starts) in his three years with the Seahawks.  If Wrotto is blocking on the blind side of Matt Hasselbeck the Seahawks should just warm up Charlie Whitehurst starting with the first snap of the game.

The Seattle Seahawks sign Brandon Jones

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Tuesday 24 August 2010 at 9:31 pm

The Seahawks have signed 27-year old WR Brandon Jones.  Jones played in 8 games (0 starts) for the Niners last season and he caught 1 pass for 18 yards.  Jones has now played in 59 games (27 starts) in his five years in the NFL and he has caught 113 passes for 1,398 yards (12.4 avg) with 9 TD grabs.  He has also carried the ball 6 times for 76 yards (12.7 ypc) in his career to date.  Jones could be a decent #4 or #5 WR for the Seahawks in 2010 so I like this signing for them.

Green Bay Packers 27, Seattle Seahawks 24

The Seahawks just didn’t have it on defense in this game and it cost them.  Matt Hasselbeck looked sharp on Saturday Night as he completed 11 of 15 passes for 127 yards with 1 TD pass in this game.  Charlie Whitehurst wasn’t near as sharp as he was in the pre-season opener for the Seahawks as he completed 9 of 20 passes for 73 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 INTs.  Leon Washington led the way on the ground for the Seahawks in this game with 19 yards rushing on 4 carries (4.8 ypc) with 1 TD run.  T.J. Houshmandzadeh led the way in the passing game for the Seahawks on Saturday with 4 grabs for 60 yards (15.0 avg).  The Seahawks finished up with 75 yards rushing (4.2 ypc) and 197 yards passing in this game.

Safety Lawyer Milloy led the way for the Seahawks’ D in this game with 7 tackles.  Rookie 7th round pick (DE) Dexter Davis also had a solid game with 6 tackles, 1 sack and 2 QB hits.  The Packers finished up with 174 yards rushing (4.5 ypc) and they also passed for 247 yards.

The Seattle Seahawks deal Lawrence Jackson to the Lions

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Trades by admin on Friday 20 August 2010 at 7:08 pm

The Seahawks have dealt 24-year old DE Lawrence Jackson to the Lions for an undisclosed 2011 draft pick.  Jackson played in 16 games (10 starts) for the Seahawks last season and he had 32 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 passes defensed and 2 forced fumbles.  He finishes his career with the Seahawks having played in 32 games (24 starts) in which he had 61 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 2 passes defensed and 2 forced fumbles.  Jackson was a Seahawks first round pick in 2008 so they are essentially giving up on him as the pick the Lions are sending is presumed to be a late rounder.

The Seattle Seahawks sign DT Amon Gordon

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Friday 20 August 2010 at 7:05 pm

The Seahawks have signed 28-year old DT Amon Gordon.  Gordon last played in the NFL in 2008 with the Titans.  He has played in 13 games (4 starts) in his NFL career and he has 29 tackles and 1 forced fumble.  It never hurts to add a guy like Gordon and give him a chance to get his career revived.

The Seattle Seahawks lost OT Ray Willis for a while

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 17 August 2010 at 4:23 pm

The Seahawks have lost OT Ray Willis indefinitely due to knee surgery.  Willis started all 16 games for the Seahawks last year.  He has played in 44 games (26 starts) in his five year NFL career.  Willis was likely to be the first tackle off the bench for the Seahawks this season so they need him to get healthy soon.

The Seattle Seahawks acquire DT Kentwan Balmer from the Niners

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Seahawks Headlines,Trades by admin on Monday 16 August 2010 at 1:31 pm

The Seahawks have acquired 23-year old DT Kentwan Balmer from the 49ers for a 6th round pick in 2011.  Balmer played in 11 games for the Niners last season and he had 12 tackles.  He has played in 27 games in his two years in the NFL and he has 19 tackles and 1 pass defensed.  Balmer must have a decent upside in the Niners’ opinion as they used a first round pick on him in 2008.  This was worth a roll of the dice by the Seahawks.

Seattle Seahawks 20, Tennessee Titans 18

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,The Pre-Season by admin on Monday 16 August 2010 at 9:30 am

Don’t let the final score fool you the Seahawks dominated most of this game as they were up 20-7 heading into the 4th quarter.  Matt Hasselbeck didn’t look sharp at all in this game as he completed 4 of 10 passes for 26 yards.  Charlie Whitehurst was pretty darn good in this ballgame as he completed 14 of 22 passes for 214 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT.  J.P. Losman wasn’t too good in this game as he only completed 3 of 5 passes for 7 yards with 1 INT.  Quinton Ganther got a lot of work in this game for the Seahawks with 11 carries for 36 yards (3.3 ypc).  Louis Rankin (3 car, 21 yards), Justin Forsett (7 car, 17 yards and 1 rec, 30 yards) and Julius Jones (5 car, 13 yards) each helped out in the running game.  WR Mike Williams only caught 1 pass for 51 yards and it went for a TD.  TE Cameron Morrah pitched in with 4 receptions for 35 yards (8.8 avg).  Rookie 6th round pick Anthony McCoy only caught 1 pass but it went for a 4-yard TD.  The Seahawks rushed for 88 yards (3.1 ypc) and they passed for 233 yards in this game.

Linebacker Matt McCoy (4 tackles, 1 fumble recovery) and LB Alvin Bowen (6 tackles) were solid in this game.  But, rookie 7th round pick Dexter Davis (DE) was all over the field in this game.  Davis finished up with 4 tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for a loss and 4 QB hits in his first taste of the NFL.  The Titans finished up with 97 yards rushing (4.2 ypc) and 163 passing yards in this game

The Seattle Seahawks need more out of the kickoff returners in 2010

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Positional Previews by admin on Friday 13 August 2010 at 12:46 pm

24-year old Justin Forsett is the likely starting kickoff returner for the Seahawks in 2010.  He played in 16 games for the Seahawks last season and he returned 18 kickoffs for 432 yards (24.0 avg).  Forsett has now played in 30 games in his NFL career and he has returned 36 kickoffs for 854 yards (23.7 avg).  He is going to likely have a much bigger role on offense in 2010 but unless someone steps up on kickoff returns, Forsett will likely have that job too.

25-year old RB Louis Rankin could also get a chance to return kicks for the Seahawks in 2010.  He played in 9 games for the Seahawks & Raiders last season and he returned 22 kickoffs for 466 yards (21.2 avg).
