The Seahawks have signed 34-year old WR Sean Morey to a multi year deal.  Morey played in 13 games for the Cardinals last season and he made 17 tackles without catching any passes as he was a special teams ace.  He has now plyaed in 76 games in his NFL career and he has caught 11 passes for 168 yards (15.3 avg).  Morey also has 94 tackles in his NFL career.  The Seahawks improved the special teams by inking Sean Morey.

The Seahawks have signed 25-year old RB Quinton Ganther.  Ganther played in 8 games for the Redskins last season in which he carried the ball 62 times for 199 yards (3.2 ypc) with 3 TD runs and he also caught 9 passes for 99 yards (11.0 avg).  Ganther has now played in 23 games in his NFL career in which he has carried the ball 71 times for 260 yards (3.7 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  He has also caught 15 passes for 142 yards (9.5 avg) in his career to date.  This was a good depth signing for the Seahawks.

The Seattle Seahawks acquire Charlie Whitehurst from the Chargers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Trades by admin on Thursday 18 March 2010 at 9:01 am

The Seahawks have acquired 27-year old QB Charlie Whitehurst and the Chargers’ 2nd round pick for the Seahawks’ 2nd round pick in 2010 and a third round pick in 2011.  Whitehurst only played in 2 games in his career with the Chargers and he didn’t attempt any passes.  He did however carry the ball 2 times for 13 yards (6.5 ypc) with a TD run.  The Seahawks then signed Whitehurst to a 2-year, $10 million dollar deal.  That would signal that the Seahawks will likely have a open competition for the starting QB in 2010.  The Seahawks gave a lot up for Whitehurst as they will move down 20 slots in the second round of this year’s draft.  Whitehurst better make Pete Carroll look good because this trade will be looked at very closely.

The Seattle Seahawks trade Darryl Tapp to the Eagles

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Seahawks Headlines by admin on Wednesday 17 March 2010 at 2:14 pm

The Seahawks have traded 25-year old DT Darryl Tapp to the Eagles for 28-year old OLB/DE Chris Clemons and a 4th round pick in 2010.  Tapp played in 16 games for the Seahawks last season in which he had 49 tackles, defensed 3 passes and he had 2.5 sacks.  He played in 64 games in his four years with the Seahawks in which he made 186 tackles, defensed 12 passes, he had 18 sacks, forced 8 fumbles and he has 2 interceptions (1 returned for a TD).

Chris Clemons played in 16 games for the Eagles last season in which he made 11 tackles, defensed 1 pass and he had 3 sacks.  Clemons has now played in 68 games in his NFL career in which he has made 62 tackles, defensed 5 passes, he has forced 5 fumbles and he has 20 sacks.  With the Seahawks changing the defense under Coach Carroll it seems as if Clemons will be a better fit for them going forward than Tapp.

The Seahawks have signed 27-year old linebacker Matt McCoy to a 1-year deal.  McCoy played in 12 games for the Buccaneers last season in which he made 14 tackles.  McCoy has now played in 47 games in his NFL career in which he has made 102 tackles, defensed 2 passes, he has 2 sacks and he has forced 5 fumbles.  McCoy should help on special teams and he will also serve as a reserve linebacker in 2010.

The Seahawks have released 31-year old safety Deon Grant.  Grant played in all 16 games for the Seahawks last season and he had 78 tackles, 8 passes defensed, 1 forced fumble and 3 interceptions.  Grant played in 48 games in his 3 years with the Seahawks in which he made 234 tackles, forced 1 fumble, defensed 26 passes and he intercepted 8 passes.  Add another position to the need list of the Seahawks this off-season as Grant won’t be too easy to replace.

The Seahawks have signed 27-year old WR Ruvell Martin to a 1-year deal.  Martin played in 8 games for the Rams last season catching 6 passes for 99 yards (16.5 avg).  He has now played in 49 games in his NFL career in which he has caught 58 passes for 848 yards (14.6 avg) with 6 TD grabs.  Martin gives the Seahawks a nice big target at 6’4″, 220 pounds to throw to in 2010.

The Seattle Seahawks sign Chris Baker

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Sunday 14 March 2010 at 7:28 pm

The Seahawks have signed 30-year old TE Chris Baker to a 2-year, $4.75 million dollar deal.  Baker played in all 16 games for the Patriots last season in which he caught 14 passes for 142 yards (10.1 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  He has now played in 115 games in his NFL career in which he has caught 159 passes for 1,647 yards (10.4 avg) with 14 TD grabs.  Baker always seems to find a team willing to pay him despite the fact that he’s just not a very productive player.  He will be a backup for the Seahawks in 2010.

The Seattle Seahawks trade Seneca Wallace to the Browns

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Seahawks Headlines,Trades by admin on Tuesday 9 March 2010 at 12:17 am

The Seahawks have traded 29-year old QB Seneca Wallace to the Browns for a conditional draft pick in 2011.  He played in 13 games for the Seahawks last season and he completed 78 of 120 passes (65%) for 700 yards with 3 TD passes and 2 INTs (81.9 QB Rating).  Wallace also carried the ball 16 times for 2 yards (0.1 ypc) with a TD run this year.  Wallace has now played in 48 games in his NFL career and he has completed 333 of 556 passes (59.9%) for 3,547 yards with 25 TD passes and 14 INTs (83.1 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 54 times for 214 yards (4.0 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Look for the Seahawks to draft a young QB to groom behind Matt Hasselbeck in 2010.  This was a good trade for the Seahawks who didn’t view Wallace as starting material.

UPDATE:  The Seahawks will receive a 7th round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft that could escalate to a 6th rounder based on Wallace’s playing time in 2010.
