Seattle Seahawks vs Detroit Lions preview

Blogged under Bloglockers,General Hawks Squawk,If I Were a Betting Man,This Week's Matchup Report by Andrew on Friday 6 November 2009 at 8:41 pm

The Seattle Seahawks (2-5) have lost two games in a row now, but thankfully for them they are taking on the Detroit Lions (1-6) at home.  The Lions have been awful once again this year, so the Seahawks should not have a problem.  The Lions will not just fold though, so the Seahawks need to bring a solid effort.  Matt Hasselbeck should have a good performance in this game, since the Lions are giving up 251 passing yards per game.  Hasselbeck put up a good performance last week in the Hawks’ loss to the Cowboys, throwing for 249 yards and two touchdowns on 22-39 passes.  The Lions are also giving up 117 rushing yards per game, so Julius Jones should be able to have a better game than he has had in the past few weeks.

The Seahawks defense needs to shut down the Lions running game and they will almost certainly win.  It should be easier for them since the Lions running back Kevin Smith is not 100% but will be playing Sunday.  The Lions best offensive weapon Calvin Johnson is also ailing and may not be able to go.  I expect him to play though, so the Seahawks need to be aware of where Johnson is on the field on every play.  Their rookie quarterback Mathew Stafford continues to struggle so the Seahawks defense should be able to handle the Lions.  I expect the Seahawks to win by about two scores.

FINAL SCORE PREDICTION:  Seattle Seahawks 30, Detroit Lions 17

The Seattle Seahawks release Edgerrin James

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Seahawks Headlines by admin on Thursday 5 November 2009 at 9:21 pm

The Seahawks have released Edgerrin James.  James played in 7 games (0 starts) for the Seahawks this season and he carried the ball 46 times for 125 yards (2.7 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 19 yards (6.3 avg).  Justin Forsett will step up and be the new #2 RB for the Seahawks.  He has played in 7 games (0 starts) for the Seahawks this season and he has carried the ball 19 times for 109 yards (5.6 ypc).  He has also caught 11 passes for 95 yards (8.6 avg) so far this season for the Seahawks.  He won’t likely be returning kickoffs or punts any time soon with his new responsibilities on the offense.  Forsett has returned 13 punts for 59 yards (4.5 avg) and 8 kickoffs for 188 yards (23.5 avg).  This was a move that had to be made for a while as James looks like he is toast.

The Seattle Seahawks release CB Travis Fisher

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Tuesday 3 November 2009 at 10:16 am

The Seahawks have released 30-year old cornerback Travis Fisher.  Fisher played in 4 games for the Seahawks this season and he made 5 tackles.  The Seahawks won’t miss Fisher too much as he wasn’t really doing anything for the team this season.

Seattle Seahawks 17, Dallas Cowboys 38

The Seattle Seahawks (2-5) took an early 3-0 lead on an Olindo Mare field goal against the Dallas Cowboys (5-2), but the Cowboys responded with a touchdown and never looked back.  Matt Hasselbeck played decent, going 22/39 for 249 yards and two touchdowns.  Hasselbeck did a good job not turning the ball over, but unfortunately for Hasselbeck his teammates could not hold on to the ball.  Nate Burleson and Justin Forsettboth lost a fumble.  Julius Jones was going up against his former team, but had a mediocre day getting 56 yards on 15 carries.  The Seahawks offense simply could not keep up with the Cowboys offense, and when you lose two fumbles its hard to keep up with a good offense.

Linebacker David Hawthorne seemed to be the only Seahawks defender who came to play.  The Seahawks tried to pressure Tony Romo, but failed to do so most of the game.  Hawthorne was the only one who had some success getting to Romo, as he sacked him twice and forced a fumble.  It was the only two sacks of the game for the Seahawks though, and Romo was able to go 21/36 for 256 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.  They also gave up 113 rushing yards, so the Seahawks defense did not give their offense much of a chance to stay in the game.  The special teams gave up an 82 yard punt return to the Cowboys’ Patrick Crayton, which pretty much sealed the win for the Cowboys.  The Seahawks were able to get the game to 14-10 in the second quarter, but the Cowboys rattled off 24 straight points to put the Seahawks out of the game.
