The Seattle Seahawks look the same at QB for 2009

Matt Hasselbeck will be the starting QB again for the Seahawks this season.  Despite rumors of the Seahawks having interest in Mark Sanchez they decided to draft linebacker Aaron Curry with the 4th pick of the first round last April and that was a smart move.  If Hasselbeck is healthy this season (a big if) then the Seahawks will be in good shape heading into the 2009 season.  He still is very efficient on the short stuff which is what the Seahawks will probably be throwing a lot this season.  Seneca Wallace has really improved to the point that they no longer are considering using him at WR.  He is a great athlete who has picked up the nuances of the NFL game as a QB and he would do a solid job if forced into action.  6th round draft pick Mike Teel will duke it out with veteran Jeff Rowe for the #3 QB job this summer.

PROJECTED GRADE FOR THE 2009 SEASON:  C

The Seattle Seahawks sign FB Justin Griffith

The Seahawks have signed 28-year old fullback/tailback Justin Griffith to a 1-year deal.  Griffith played in 7 games for the Raiders last season and he carried the ball 2 times for 2 yards (1.0 ypc).  He also caught 9 passes for 85 yards (9.4 avg) with 1 TD grab last season.  Griffith has now played in 83 games in his six year NFL career and he has carried the ball 90 times for 407 yards (4.5 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He has also caught 122 passes for 871 yards (7.1 avg) with 1 TD grab in his career to date.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see Griffith win the starting fullback job for the Seahawks in 2009.

The Seattle Seahawks sign CB Ken Lucas

The Seahawks have signed 30-year old CB Ken Lucas to a 1-year deal.  Lucas played in all 16 games for the Panthers last season and he made 60 tackles, defensed 10 passes and he had 2 interceptions.  Lucas has now played in 122 games in his 8-year NFL career and he has made 495 tackles, has defensed 104 passes, has forced 2 fumbles and he has 24 interceptions (1 of which he returned for a TD).  This was a outstanding signing for the Seahawks as Lucas has a lot of game left.

The Seattle Seahawks sign linebacker Tony Taylor

The Seahawks have signed 24-year old linebacker Tony Taylor to a 1-year deal.  The 6′4″, 235 pound Taylor did not play at all last season.  He has played in 16 games in his NFL career and he has made 12 tackles.  Taylor will have a hard time making the Seahawks’ final roster.
