Seattle Seahawks 37, St. Louis Rams 13

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Wednesday 24 September 2008 at 4:45 am

With all of the problems the Seahawks have at WR they decided to tilt the offense to the running game and it worked great last weekend.  Matt Hasselbeck completed 12 of 20 passes for 172 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 interceptions.  Julius Jones was outstanding against the Rams with 140 yards rushing on 22 carries (6.4 ypc) with a TD run.  T.J. Duckett also had a solid game with 79 yards rushing on 19 carries (4.2 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  WR Billy McMullen led the Seahawks in receiving with 76 yards on 4 catches (19.0 avg) in this game.  The Seahawks finished up with 245 yards rushing on 46 carries (5.3 ypc) and they also completed 12 of 20 passes for 162 yards.

Linebacker LeRoy Hill led the way for the Seahawks’ solid defensive effort with 11 tackles.  Julian Peterson (4 tackles, sack, fumble recovery) and Deon Grant (4 tackles, interception) both also had big games for the Seahawks Sunday.  The Rams finished with 65 yards rushing on 24 carries (2.7 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 31 passes for 175 yards.  The Seahawks are now 1-2 on the season after this win.

Seattle Seahawks vs. St. Louis Rams

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Sunday 21 September 2008 at 12:02 am

Both of these teams are off to 0-2 starts so the loser of this game will be in deep trouble this season.  The Rams would love to open up the offense in this game but Marc Bulger hasn’t been getting much time to throw the ball as evidenced by the 10 times he has been sacked this season already.  The bad news for Bulger is that the Seahawks already have nine sacks this season.  Bulger will take some shots deep to Torry Holt against a Seahawks’ defense that is allowing 252.0 yards passing per game.  With the Rams not protecting Bulger well TE Randy McMichael and RB Steven Jackson could catch a lot of passes on Sunday.  It would help the Rams cause in this game if Steven Jackson got his act together on the ground as he has only rushed for 93 yards (3.4 ypc) so far this season.

The Rams are giving up 481.5 yards per game so QB Matt Hasselbeck might get his act together in this game.  He will likely have good ground support from Julius Jones who has 172 yards rushing this season and they Rams are allowing 154.0 yards rushing per game and 4.9 ypc.  TE John Carlson will likely be Hasselbeck’s top target in the passing game on Sunday putting a lot of pressure on the Rams’ safeties.  The Rams are allowing 327.5 yards passing per game this season so if Hasselbeck can’t have success against them it’s going to be a long season.

PREDICTION:  SEATTLE SEAHAWKS 33, ST. LOUIS RAMS 27

The Seattle Seahawks release DE Jason Babin

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Seahawks Headlines by admin on Friday 19 September 2008 at 8:19 pm

The Seahawks have released DE Jason Babin.  Babin played in both games for the Seahawks this season and he has made 1 tackle.  Babin was a complete bust for the Seahawks who were hoping that he would add to the pass rush, which he didn’t.  Babin played in 4 games in two years with the Seahawks and he made 1 whole tackle.  The Seahawks won’t miss him one bit.

The Seattle Seahawks sign old friend Koren Robinson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Tuesday 16 September 2008 at 5:29 pm

The Seahawks have signed 28-year old WR Koren Robinson to a 1-year contract.  Robinson played in 9 games (1 start) for the Packers last season and he caught 21 passes for 245 yards (11.5 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Robinson played his best four seasons of his NFL career in Seattle and the team is hoping that he can regain that magic.  In his four years in Seattle, Robinson played in 57 games (52 starts) and he caught 213 passes for 3,167 yards (14.9 avg) with 12 TD grabs.  He also carried the ball 17 times for 87 yards (5.1 ypc) for the Seahawks.  Signing Robinson after the way he left Seattle shows how desperate the team has become at WR.  But, Robinson might surprise and play pretty well for them.  This was a move that was worth the risk because of Robinson’s upside.

The Seattle Seahawks acquire WR Keary Colbert from the Broncos

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Seahawks Headlines,The Draft Report by admin on Tuesday 16 September 2008 at 5:25 pm

The Seahawks have acquired WR Keary Colbert from the Denver Broncos for a undisclosed late round draft pick.  Colbert played in both games this season for the Broncos but he didn’t catch any passes.  Colbert has played in 57 games (42 starts) in his NFL career and he has caught 109 passes for 1,424 yards (13.1 avg) with 7 TD grabs.  He also has carried the ball 1 time for 6 yards.  This was a good move for the desperate Seahawks who need to audition any player that can catch a forward pass.

The Seattle Seahawks lose another WR for the season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 16 September 2008 at 5:22 pm

The Seahawks have lost WR Logan Payne for the season due to a torn MCL.  Payne started the first two games for the Seahawks this season and he caught 3 passes for 39 yards (13.0 avg).  This is getting a little ridiculous for the poor Seahawks as Mike Holmgren has to be second guessing the fact that he came back for one more year.

San Francisco 49ers 33, Seattle Seahawks 30 in OT

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Monday 15 September 2008 at 9:03 pm

The undermanned offense of the Seahawks put up a good fight in this game before losing in OT on a Joe Nedney 40-yard FG.  Matt Hasselbeck had another sub par game as he completed 18 of 36 passes for 189 yards with 2 pickoffs.  Julius Jones was outstanding on the ground for the Seahawks in this game as he rushed for 127 yards on 26 carries (4.9 ypc) with a 27-yard TD run.  TE John Carlson was the leading receiver for the Seahawks in this game with 6 grabs for 78 yards (13.0 avg).  Billy McMullen pitched in with 3 grabs for 48 yards (16.0 avg) in his Seahawks’ debut but he also lost a fumble.  The Seahawks finished up with 169 yards rushing on 34 carries (5.0 ypc) yesterday but they only completed 18 of 36 passes for 182 yards.

The Seahawks’ Defense scored on a 10-yard fumble return for a TD and they had 8 sacks but they still didn’t play well overall.  DE Patrick Kerney led the way for the Seahawks’ Defense in this game with 6 tackles and 2 sacks.  LB Julian Peterson (5 tackles, sack) and DE Lawrence Jackson (5 tackles, 2 sacks) also had solid games for the Seahawks yesterday.  The 49ers finished up with 93 yards rushing on 23 carries (4.0 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 32 passes for 272 yards.  The Seahawks are off to a pathetic 0-2 start to the 2008 season.

Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 13 September 2008 at 8:57 pm

The Seattle Seahawks swept the 49ers by a combined score of 47-3 last season.  But, the Niners have a new look this season especially on offense so this game should be a battle.  The Niners lost 4 fumbles and threw an interception last week and only lost by 10 points (23-13 to Arizona) so if they just can hold onto the football this will be a good football game tomorrow.  The 49ers would be smart to get the ball in Frank Gore’s hands (96 yards rushing, 55 yards receiving) as much as possible.  It will be up to linebackers Leroy Hill, Julian Peterson and  Lofa Tatupu to contain Gore and make the Niners pass the ball.  The Buffalo Bills were very effective throwing the ball against the Seahawks last week especially when throwing the ball to the TE so Vernon Davis could have a big game.

The Seahawks would like to run the football due to all of the injuries in the WR corps but that will be easier said than done as the Niners only allowed the Cardinals 2.9 yards per carry last week.  Julius Jones will likely have a huge workload for the Seahawks tomorrow due to an injury to Maurice Morris that will keep him out a couple of weeks.  The Seahawks must block well in the passing game to give Matt Hasselbeck a chance to succeed as he was sacked 5 times last week by the Bills.  Look for the Seahawks to throw the ball a lot to rookie TE John Carlson who caught 4 passes for 52 yards (13.0 avg) in his NFL debut last week.  WRs Courtney Taylor and Logan Payne must step up in the game tomorrow or the Seahawks could be in trouble.

PREDICTION:  SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS 17, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS 13

The Seattle Seahawks lose starting right guard Rob Sims for the year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Injury Reports,Seahawks Headlines by admin on Wednesday 10 September 2008 at 10:39 pm

The Seahawks have lost starting right guard Rob Sims for the season with a torn pectoral muscle.  This will hurt the Seahawks who had enough problems on offense before losing Sims.  Sims will be replaced by Floyd Womack in the starting lineup and there will be a dropoff.

The Seattle Seahawks sign a couple of veteran WRs

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by admin on Wednesday 10 September 2008 at 10:36 pm

The Seattle Seahawks have signed WRs Samie Parker and Billy McMullen.  The 27-year old Parker is the better player of the two as he played in 15 games (7 starts) for the Chiefs last year and he caught 24 passes for 298 yards (12.4 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  Parker has now played in 47 games (31 starts) in his NFL career and he has caught 110 passes for 1,529 yards (13.9 avg) with 7 TD grabs.  Parker might move right into a key role for the Seahawks if he picks up the offense quickly.  Billy McMullen hasn’t played in the NFL since the 2006 season with the Vikings.  He has played in 45 games (0 starts) in his NFL career and he has caught 45 passes for 601 yards (13.4 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  With all of the injuries the Seahawks have suffered in the receiving corps these were signings that had to be made.
