The Seahawks have released running back Shaun Alexander.  Alexander was easily the best running back in Seahawks’ history but he started to wear down last season.  He played in 13 games (10 starts) for the Seahawks last season and he carried the ball 207 times for 716 yards (3.5 ypc) with 4 TD runs and he also caught 14 passes for 76 yards (5.4 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Alexander played in 119 games (96 starts) in his career with the Seahawks and he carried the ball 2,176 times for 9,429 yards (4.3 ypc) with 100 TD runs.  He also caught 214 passes for 1,511 yards (7.1 avg) with 12 TD grabs.

The Seattle Seahawks didn’t draft that well last season

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Draft Report, Front Page, General Hawks Squawk by admin on Sunday 13 April 2008 at 8:39 pm

Last April is a month the Seahawks would like to forget.  The first pick they had was in the 2nd round when they selected CB Josh Wilson.  Wilson played in 12 games (0 starts) for the Seahawks last season and he made 9 tackles.  Wilson was a solid kick returner however as he returned 14 kickoffs for 385 yards (27.5 avg) with 1 TD return.  DT Brandon Mebane was drafted in the 3rd round by the Seahawks last year and he was the best pick they made.  He played in 16 games (10 starts) for the Seahawks last season and he made 29 tackles and had 2 sacks.  DE Baraka Atkins was the first of two 4th round picks the Seahawks made last year.  He played in 12 games (0 starts) for the Seahawks last season and he made 10 tackles and defensed 1 pass.  The other 4th rounder for the Seahawks was OG Mansfield Wrotto.  Wrotto didn’t even make it on the field as a rookie.  In the 5th round the Seahawks selected OLB Will Herring.  Herring played in 12 games (0 starts) for the Seahawks last season and he made 13 tackles.  WR Courtney Taylor was the 6th round pick of the Seahawks last April.  He played in 8 games (0 starts) for the Seahawks and he finished with 5 receptions for 38 yards (7.6 avg).  He also returned 1 kickoff for 27 yards.  Neither of the 7th round picks of the Seahawks made it to the field.  WR Jordan Kent and OT Steve Vallos somehow are still on the roster.

The Seattle Seahawks sign DB Omar Lowe

The Seahawks have signed reserve defensive back Omar Lowe.  Lowe, 29 years old, did not play in the NFL last season at all.  Lowe has now played in 34 games in his NFL career and he has made 43 tackles, defensed 1 pass and he has forced 1 fumble.  Signing Lowe was likely a move to help with the depth in the secondary and the special teams.

The Seattle Seahawks have signed kicker Olindo Mare

The Seahawks have signed kicker Olindo Mare.  Mare played in 13 games for the Saints last season and he only hit 10 of 17 (58.8%) of his field goals and he also made all 34 of his extra points to finish with 64 points.  Mare has now played in 168 games in his NFL career and he has made 255 of 320 field goals (79.7%) and 347 of 352 extra points.  Mare has now scored 1,112 points in his NFL career.  Mare is no Josh Brown so don’t be surprised if the Seahawks bring in another kicker before the season starts.

The Seattle Seahawks sign DT/DE Chris Cooper

The Seattle Seahawks have signed DT/DE Chris Cooper.  Cooper played in 12 games for the Cardinals last season and he made 6 tackles.  Cooper has now played in 76 games in his NFL career and he has made 132 tackles, defensed 8 passes, has 8.5 sacks, forced 2 fumbles and he has intercepted 1 pass.  This was a good signing for depth along the defensive line for the Seahawks.
