You are no true fan if you were one of them!!  Especially after for all that

Alexander has done for the team!!  True Seahawks fans, please

Seattle Seahawks vs. St. Louis Rams

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,This Week's Matchup Report by dawgpounded on Friday 19 October 2007 at 10:25 pm
The Rams are the worst team in the NFL right now.  They are 0-6 on the season and they are especially awful on the road.  In three road games this season the Rams have been outscored 81-13!  The Seahawks started the season 3-1 but they’ve lost two in a row and they looked bad doing it as they have been outscored 49-17 in those games.

The Rams are going to start Marc Bulger at QB and they are hoping that he can provide a spark for the offense.  Torry Holt (32 rec, 384 yards, 3 TDs) has always had big games against the Seahawks and he might be able to again if the Rams can keep the Seahawks out of their backfield.  That will be easier said than done as LB Julian Peterson already has 6 sacks on the season.  The Rams would like to establish a running game with Brian Leonard (199 yards rushing) and it could work against a Seahawks defense that is allowing 116.5 yards rushing per game this season.

The Seahawks will try to get Shaun Alexander (413 yards rushing, 3.6 ypc) back on track against a Rams defense that is allowing 134.5 yards rushing per game and 4.2 yards per carry so far this season.  Look for Matt Hasselbeck to keep the passing game short to Bobby Engram, Nate Burleson and Ben Obomanu to off set their offensive line which has allowed 15 sacks already this season.

PREDICTION:  The Seahawks will take advantage of the Rams inability to play on the road.  SEAHAWKS 27, RAMS 10.

The Seattle Seahawks lose DT Chartric Darby for the season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Injury Reports by dawgpounded on Wednesday 17 October 2007 at 5:37 pm

The Seahawks have lost starting defensive tackle Chartric Darby for the season.  He has been placed on the Injured Reserve List….ending his season with 12 tackles.  Rookie 3rd round pick Brandon Mebane will replace Darby in the starting lineup and he has played well as a reserve.  He has 9 tackles and a sack so far this season and the Seahawks defense might actually improve with Mebane in the starting lineup.

New Orleans Saints 28, Seattle Seahawks 17

The Seahawks fell to far behind early in this game to win it.  Matt Hasselbeck will have to ice up his arm after Sunday Night’s game.  He completed 26 of 43 passes for 362 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 interception.  Shaun Alexander had another off game as he carried the ball 14 times for 35 yards (2.5 ypc).  Leonard Weaver had a good game as he carried the ball 3 times for 40 yards (13.3 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 53 yards (13.3 avg).  Bobby Engram led the way for the Seahawks with 9 catches for 120 yards (13.3 avg).  Ben Obomanu (4 rec, 72 yards) and Nate Burleson (6 rec, 63 yards) each caught a TD pass.  The Seahawks finished up with 92 yards rushing on 21 carries (4.4 ypc) and they also completed 26 of 43 passes for 333 yards.

Brian Russell led a poor Seahawks defensive effort with 10 tackles.  The Saints rushed for 121 yards on 33 carries (3.7 ypc) and they also completed 25 of 36 passes for 246 yards.

Seattle Seahawks vs. New Orleans Saints

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,This Week's Matchup Report by dawgpounded on Friday 12 October 2007 at 2:46 pm
The Saints need a win in a big way as they almost won last week….but they are still 0-4 on the season.  The Seahawks are tied for first place with the Cardinals in the NFC West, but they were shut out by the Steelers and they looked really bad in the game.

The Saints would like to run the football to balance the offense a bit, but that will be hard against the Seahawks despite how many yards the Steelers ran up last week.  Reggie Bush (147 yards rushing, 2.9 ypc) has not run the ball too well this season and the Seahawks have small and fast linebackers who should be able to stop him.  The Saints would be smart to quit throwing so many short passes and try to stretch the field with the passing game.  Drew Brees only has 1 TD pass and 9 interceptions so far this season so the Saints could have some troubles but the Saints don’t have any other options at the position so they must stick with him.  Still, Marques Colston (22 rec, 216 yards), Eric Johnson (21 rec, 128 yards) and Devery Henderson (8 rec, 146 yards) could find openings against the Seahawks who are allowing 215.0 yards passing per game.

The Seahawks will throw the ball a lot against the Saints on Sunday Night.  The Saints are allowing 218.0 yards passing per game and QB’s have a 114.7 QB Rating against them.  Part of the reason for that is the utter lack of a pass rush by the Saints who only have 1 sack so far this season.  Matt Hasselbeck (90.5 QB Rating) should be able to throw the ball all night long against the Saints but the question is who will he be throwing to?  Look for Bobby Engram (19 rec, 275 yards, 2 TDs) and Nate Burleson (13 rec, 173 yards, 2 TDs) to get most of the work in the passing game.  Don’t be surprised if Seneca Wallace has a big game catching the ball too based on how many injuries the Seahawks currently have in the receiving corps.  Shaun Alexander (378 yards rushing, 3.7 ypc, 2 TDs) could also have a big game against the Saints’ defense which has allowed 109.3 yards rushing per game and 3.6 yards per carry.

PREDICTION:  The Seahawks should win this football game as they will be fired up at home and they will be ready to put up some healthy points against the soft defense of the Saints.  The Saints must be able to throw the ball to keep up with the Seahawks but in the end they will fall short again.

The Seattle Seahawks lose Deion Branch for a couple of weeks

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Injury Reports by dawgpounded on Tuesday 9 October 2007 at 2:54 pm

The Seattle Seahawks will be without WR Deion Branch for the next two weeks with a foot sprain.  He is the leading receiver for the Seahawks this season as he has caught 22 passes for 343 yards (15.6 avg) with 1 TD grab.  The Seahawks will really need Bobby Engram, Nate Burleson and TE Marcus Pollard to step up to make up for the loss of Branch.  Also, look for either Ben Obomanu or rookie Courtney Taylor to get a big chance as the #3 WR on the Hawks.

The Seattle Seahawks lose fullback Mack Strong to retirement after injury

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Injury Reports by dawgpounded on Tuesday 9 October 2007 at 2:49 pm

14 year veteran fullback Mack Strong decided to hang up the spikes after injuring his neck in Sunday’s game against the Steelers.  He carried the ball 4 times for 19 yards (4.8 ypc) and caught 9 passes for 72 yards (8.0 avg).  Strong finishes his 14 year NFL career with 909 yards rushing on 230 carries (4.0 ypc) with 5 TD runs and he also caught 218 passes for 1,456 yards (6.7 avg) with 10 TD grabs.  This will likely hurt Shaun Alexander’s production as Strong was often his bodyguard as a lead blocker.

Pittsburgh Steelers 21, Seattle Seahawks 0

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Hawks Squawk by dawgpounded on Monday 8 October 2007 at 5:46 pm

The Seahawks looked completely pathetic against the Steelers yesterday.  The final score was 21-0 but it was a much worse beating than the scoreboard showed as the Steelers punched them in the mouth all day long.  Matt Hasselbeck was awful as he completed 13 of 27 passes for 116 yards with 0 TDs and 1 INT.  Seneca Wallace finished up the game and he completed 1 of 3 passes for 6 yards and he also had 1 carry for 11 yards.  Shaun Alexander had a rough game too as he carried the ball 11 times for 25 yards (2.3 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 7 yards (2.3 avg).  The Seahawks only had possession of the football for 19:15 of the game.  The Seahawks finished up with 38 yards rushing on 13 carries (2.9 ypc) and they completed 14 of 30 passes for 106 yards.

The Seahawks defense just couldn’t get off of the field as the Steelers had some long, time consuming drives in this game.  Linebacker Julian Peterson (10 tackles, sack) and safety Deon Grant (8 tackles) both did their jobs so you can’t blame them for the result.  The Steelers rushed for 163 yards on 41 carries (4.0 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 22 passes for 179 yards.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,This Week's Matchup Report by dawgpounded on Friday 5 October 2007 at 5:08 pm

This will be the first meeting of these two teams since Super Bowl XL which was won 21-10 by the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Both teams are sitting on top of their divisions with matching 3-1 records.

The Seahawks will likely try to stay balanced on offense but they might try to attack the Steelers Front Seven with Shaun Alexander in the running game.  He has rushed for 353 yards (3.9 ypc) so far this season but the Steelers will likely be without NT Casey Hampton and his backup Chris Hoke due to injury.  That means the Steelers will likely start Nick Eason at nose guard and the center to be able to handle him one on one.  That means the guards of the Seahawks will likely be able to get to James Farrior and Larry Foote which will severely hamper the run defense of the Steelers.  The Steelers will also likely without strong safety Troy Polamalu (abdomen) which means they will start Anthony Smith and that’s a big dropoff.  Look for the Seahawks to also come out with a lot of 3 WR sets with Deion Branch (20 rec, 329 yards), Bobby Engram (17 rec, 250 yards) and Nate Burleson (12 rec, 166 yards) and challenge the Steelers secondary.

The Seahawks will likely stick 8 men in the box to stop the Steelers running game but the Steelers won’t change.  Willie Parker has rushed for 405 yards (4.4 ypc) and Najeh Davenport has rushed for 151 yards (7.2 ypc) so far this season.  The Seahawks will bring heat in the form of blitzes as they have 13 sacks this season led by linebacker Julian Peterson (5 sacks) who is a big time playmaker.  The Steelers must give Roethlisberger time to throw the ball because QBs only have a 67.6 Rating against the Seahawks’ defense this season.  The Seahawks will likely double Santonio Holmes (14 rec, 285 yards) which should open up some of the field for TE Heath Miller (13 rec, 197 yards) who is having a solid season.

PREDICTION:  The Steelers are hurting because of injuries so the Seahawks should have solid success on offense.  But, the Steelers will probably be inspired at home.  Look for this game to be won by the team that has the ball last….by a field goal.

The return men have done a good job so far this season for the Seattle Seahawks

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by dawgpounded on Thursday 4 October 2007 at 11:42 pm

The Seahawks have went through a lot of kickoff returners due to injury but they have all been pretty productive.  Alvin Pearman returned 3 kickoffs for 71 yards (23.7 avg) before injuring himself which will cause him to miss the rest of the season.  Rookie cornerback Josh Wilson returned 3 kickoffs for 99 yards (33.0 avg) so far this season but he will miss the next 1-2 games because of injury.  That probably means that Nate Burleson sill get a chance to return kicks for the time being.  He has returned 2 kickoffs for 35 yards (17.5 avg).  Burleson has been solid returning punts as he has 145 yards on 14 (10.4 avg) punt returns.
