The over/under for Seattle Seahawks wins is 9 for the 2007 season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,If I Were a Betting Man,Vegas Lines by dawgpounded on Saturday 8 September 2007 at 10:49 pm

The Seahawks are starting to show cracks in the armor.  They are a veteran team that really hasn’t improved in the off-season and they are set up for a fall as the Rams, Cardinals and 49ers have all improved for the 2007 season.  The Seahawks also are weak along the defensive line due to injuries.  Take the under and go buy yourself something nice with the winnings.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,This Week's Matchup Report by dawgpounded on Friday 7 September 2007 at 7:28 pm
The oddsmakers think this is a little of a mis-match as the Seahawks have been installed as a 6-point favorite. But a closer look at the match-ups paints a little different story. Look for the Buccaneers to come out running the football behind the right side of their offensive line (RG Davin Joseph, RT Jeremy Trueblood) with RB Cadillac Williams and FB Michael Pittman. The Bucs offensive line must be able to reach the linebackers on running plays as they are the three best all-around players on the Seahawks defense. OLBs Julian Peterson and LeRoy Hill are good at containment on run plays and they are good pass rushers. MLB Lofa Tatupu is undersized but he makes plays sideline to sideline. New left DE Patrick Kerney must put pressure on QB Jeff Garcia when he drops back to pass because the CBs Marcus Trufant and Kelly Jennings don’t inspire confidence in the coaching staff. Lucky for the Seahawks that only the ancient Joey Galloway can get down the field as the rest of the receivers are a tad slow for the Bucs.

The Seahawks have some issues on their offense. The only better than average OL on the entire roster is Pro-Bowl LT Walter Jones and the Seahawks are going to run Shaun Alexander behind him until the Bucs prove they can stop it. DT Chris Hovan will likely be called on to battle Jones to free up OLBs Cato June and Derrick Brooks to make plays on the perimeter of the defense. I wouldn’t be shocked if the Bucs got Jeremiah Trotter a lot of playing time inside to help out against Alexander despite only being in Tampa for a week. The Seahawks will likely try to stretch the field with Deion Branch and D.J. Hackett but CBs Ronde Barber and Brian Kelly match up well with them. The Seahawks will also try to stretch the seam with TE Marcus Pollard. The safeties must be able to contain him and SS Jermaine Phillips and FS Will Allen are solid players.

The Bucs must be careful when kicking the ball to Nate Burleson who stepped up last season in that role.

PREDICTION: This game will be closer than most people think. Still, the Seahawks will win the game but they will not cover the pointspread.

The Seattle Seahawks acquire RB Alvin Pearman from the Jaguars

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Seahawks Headlines by dawgpounded on Wednesday 5 September 2007 at 8:59 am

The Seattle Seahawks have acquired running back Alvin Pearman from the Jaguars for an undisclosed draft pick.  Look for Pearman to challenge Maurice Morris for the #2 job at running back for the Seahawks this season as the Seahawks were not satisfied with how Morris played while Shaun Alexander was out last season.  Pearman carried the ball 24 times for 68 yards (2.8 ypc) with 2 TD runs and he also caught 5 passes for 27 yards (5.4 avg) in the pre-season for the Jaguars.  Pearman has now played in 29 games in his NFL career and he has carried the football 58 times for 238 yards (4.1 ypc) with 2 TD runs and he also has caught 34 passes for 252 yards (7.4 avg).  Pearman has also returned kicks in the NFL.  He has returned 11 kickoffs for 243 yards (22.1 avg) and he has also returned 81 punts for 693 yards (8.6 avg).  Pearman was a solid pick up for the Seahawks as he has some good skills.

The Seattle Seahawks release DT Russell Davis

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Seahawks Headlines by dawgpounded on Wednesday 5 September 2007 at 8:51 am

This was kind of a shocking move as Russell Davis has been one of the Seahawks best interior run defenders over the years.  He played in 13 games last season for the Seahawks and he made 30 tackles and 3 sacks.  Davis has played in 103 games in his NFL career and he has made 276 tackles, 11.5 sacks, defensed 11 passes and forced 3 fumbles.  He will likely get picked up by another team this season.

The Seattle Seahawks lose DT Marcus Tubbs for the season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Injury Reports by dawgpounded on Tuesday 4 September 2007 at 11:15 pm

The Seattle Seahawks have lost their best interior run defender (DT Marcus Tubbs) for the season with a torn ACL.  Tubbs has played in 29 games in his three year NFL career and he has made 60 tackles, has 7 sacks, defended 3 passes and forced 3 fumbles.  The Seahawks have already made some moves to help the run defense to make up for not having Tubbs around this season.

The Seattle Seahawks sign DT Ellis Wyms

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Seahawks Headlines by dawgpounded on Tuesday 4 September 2007 at 10:57 pm

The Seahawks have signed DT Ellis Wyms who had just been released by the Tampa Bay Bucs.  Wyms had 5 tackles and a sack this pre-season for the Bucs.  He has played in 66 games in his NFL career and he has made 120 tackles, has 14.5 sacks, defensed 4 passes and forced 4 fumbles.  The Seahawks made a nice move in getting Wyms as they needed more muscle inside to defend the running game.

The Seattle Seahawks release QB David Greene

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Seahawks Headlines by dawgpounded on Tuesday 4 September 2007 at 10:48 pm

The Seattle Seahawks decided that they were just going to go with Matt Hasselbeck and Seneca Wallace this season so they cut Greene loose.  Greene only completed 6 of 17 (35.3%) of his passes for 68 yards with 0 TD passes and 3 interceptions (8.6 QB Rating).  Greene has turned into a complete bust for the Seahawks who once had high hopes for him.

The Seattle Seahawks trade S Michael Boulware to the Texans for DE Jason Babin

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by dawgpounded on Tuesday 4 September 2007 at 7:02 pm

The Seahawks have a need on the defensive line so they paid a high price to get a pass rusher.  Michael Boulware played three seasons for the Seahawks and he played in 48 games (28 starts) and he made 175 tackles, had 3 sacks, defensed 10 passes and he intercepted 11 passes and returned them 177 yards including a 63-yard TD.  New DE Jason Babin had a good pre-season for the Texans with 8 tackles and 2 sacks.  Babin has played in 43 games (22 starts) for the Texans in his NFL career and he has made 124 tackles, has 13 sacks and he has defended 7 passes.

Seattle Seahawks 19, Oakland Raiders 14

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,The Pre-Season by dawgpounded on Sunday 2 September 2007 at 6:06 pm

The Seattle Seahawks won this game because of their stellar defense.  Seneca Wallace played the entire game for the Seahawks and he completed 12 of 26 passes for 181 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 INTs.  He also carried the ball 4 times for 16 yards (4.0 ypc).  RBs Leonard Weaver (16 car, 74 yards) and Marquis Weeks (11 car, 31 yards, TD) both did the heavy lifting in the running game for the Seahawks last Thursday.  WR Nate Burleson was the Seahawks’ leading receiver with 3 catches for 52 yards (17.3 avg) with 1 TD.  The Seahawks finished up with 130 yards rushing on 39 carries (3.3 ypc) and they completed 12 of 26 passes for 181 yards.

The Seahawks defense was pretty sharp as they held the Raiders to 75 yards rushing on 21 carries (3.6 ypc).  But the Raiders did complete 18 of 33 passes for 184 yards.  The Seahawks special teams had some issues as Johnnie Lee Higgins of the Raiders scored a TD on a 90-yard punt return.
