The Seattle Seahawks re-sign WR Bobby Engram to multi-year contract

The Seahawks made a smart move in bringing back Bobby Engram.  He’s a tough receiver that isn’t scared to do the dirty work over the middle of the field.  He only played in 7 games (6 starts) last season and he caught 24 passes for 290 yards (12.1 avg) with 1 TD catch.  Look for him to improve on those numbers if he stays healthy.

The Seahawks sign TE Marcus Pollard

The Seahawks have signed a TE that can actually catch a pass which will be a change for QB Matt Hasselbeck.  Pollard played in 15 games last season for the Detroit Lions and he caught 12 passes for 100 yards (8.3 avg).  Look for Pollard to be an improvement over Jerramy Stevens.

The Seahawks re-sign Floyd Womack

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by dawgpounded on Sunday 11 March 2007 at 2:17 pm

The Seahawks have re-signed “Pork Chop” Womack and he will compete for the starting job at left guard this season.  He only played in 9 games (all starts) last season because of injury.  Womack has played in 61 games in his NFL career (all with the Seahawks) and he’s started 32 of them.  Look for the 6’4″, 330 pound Womack to be the starter unless the Seahawks bring in someone better in free agency.

The Seahawks sign safety Brian Russell

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by dawgpounded on Saturday 10 March 2007 at 11:58 pm

The Seahawks have signed safety Brian Russell to provide depth in their secondary.  Russell played in 12 games last season for the Cleveland Browns and he made 51 tackles, had an interception, defensed 3 passes and forced a fumble.  Don’t expect big things out of Russell as he’s a tad slow, misses tackles and gets burned deep often.

The Seahawks sign safety Deon Grant

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by dawgpounded on Friday 9 March 2007 at 10:26 am

The Hawks gave Grant a 6 year, $30 million dollar contract to come in and start for them.  He played in all 16 games last season for the Jacksonville Jaguars and he made 60 tackles, had 2 interceptions, defensed 5 passes and recovered a fumble.  This was a good move for the Seahawks as they continue to rebuild their defense.

The Seahawks release DE Grant Wistrom

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by dawgpounded on Friday 9 March 2007 at 12:14 am

Grant Wistrom played in all 16 games last season for the Seahawks and he made 37 tackles, 4 sacks, defensed a pass, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.  That was Wistrom’s third sub par season in a row so the Seahawks decided that they didn’t want to see any more so they cut him.  Wistrom played 3 seasons with the Seahawks and played in 41 games and he made 126 tackles, had 11.5 sacks, defensed 10 passes, forced 2 fumbles and recovered 2 fumbles.

The Seahawks sign DE Patrick Kerney

The Seahawks have signed DE Patrick Kerney to a 6-year, $39.5 million dollar contract.  The Seahawks had big problems with their pass rush last season but look for that to change with Kerney on board.  Kerney only played in 9 games last season for the Falcons due to injury.  Kerney had 16 tackles, 4.5 sacks, defensed 2 passes and forced 2 fumbles.  He has played in 121 games in his NFL career and he has made 356 tackles, has 58 sacks, 2 interceptions, defensed 16 passes, forced 11 fumbles and recovered 10 fumbles (one returned for a TD).  The Seahawks made a good move here to improve their defense.  If Kerney stays healthy he could make the Pro Bowl next season.

The Seahawks re-sign fullback Josh Parry

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by dawgpounded on Tuesday 6 March 2007 at 11:19 am

Josh Parry’s main job is as a blocker for Shaun Alexander and he does a good job of that.  He played in 8 games last season and caught 1 pass for 11 yards.

The Seahawks re-sign TE Will Heller

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk by dawgpounded on Friday 2 March 2007 at 11:27 pm

Will Heller could get a chance to be more involved in the passing game this season as the Seahawks seem content to let Jerramy Stevens walk in free agency.  Heller was mostly a blocker in the running game last season as he played in all 16 games last season and he only caught 4 passes for 32 yards (8.0 avg) with 1 TD catch.
