Seahawks push Packers around in second half and win 34-24

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Wednesday 29 November 2006 at 3:51 am

Things were not looking good for the Seahawks in the first half as Matt Hasselbeck turned the ball over 4 times (3 INT, 1 lost fumble that was returned for a TD).  But in the second half, the Seahawks just started feeding the ball to Shaun Alexander.

Matt Hasselbeck completed 17 of 36 passes for 157 yards with 3 TDs and 3 INTs.  Shaun Alexander was awesome with 40 carries for 201 yards (5.0 ypc).  D.J. Hackett was the leading receiver for the Hawks with 5 receptions for 67 yards and a TD.  Deion Branch pitched in with 4 receptions for 38 yards.  Darrell Jackson and Jerramy Stevens each caught a TD pass.

The Seahawks defense played well on Monday Night.  The Hawks held the Packers to 51 yards rushing on 19 carries (2.7 ypc).  The Packers completed 22 of 36 passes for 259 net yards passing, but the Hawks intercepted 3 Favre passes and forced him to fumble once.

This was a solid win for the Seahawks.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Green Bay Packers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 24 November 2006 at 3:03 pm

The Packers and Seahawks are both coming off disappointing losses, but the Seahawks are finally getting healthy.  Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander will both be starting on Monday Night.

Look for the Packers to run the football with Ahman Green (644 yards rushing) and Vernand Morency (235 yards rushing) against a soft Seahawks run defense that allowed Frank Gore to rush for 212 yards last week, and have allowed an average of 117.8 yards rushing and 4.5 yards per carry on the season.  Brett Favre (2,368 yards passing) could also have a good day against the Seahawks who allow 212.7 net yards passing per game.  Donald Driver (58 rec, 813 yards) could have a huge game on Monday Night.

Look for the Seahawks to throw the ball alot against a Packers secondary that is allowing 241.3 net yards passing per game.  Darrell Jackson (50 rec, 785 yards) and Deion Branch should cause all kinds of trouble for the Packers as long as the line gives Hasselbeck enough time to throw the ball.  The Packers already have 33 sacks (Aaron Kampman has 10), and the Seahawks have allowed 34 sacks on the season…so that could be a problem.  Shaun Alexander could have a rough time against the Packers defense which is only allowing 3.7 yards per carry this season.

Look for an offensive shoot-out on Monday Night.  I have a feeling that the gimpy QB that protects the football better will prevail in this game.

Seahawks get gored by Niners 20-14

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 20 November 2006 at 12:35 pm

It’s almost impossible to win a football game when you turn the ball over 5 times and allow the other team to run the ball for 262 yards in a game.  The Seahawks did exactly that, and that’s why they lost yesterday.

Seneca Wallace is proving that he’s not very good, as he completed 19 of 31 passes for 252 yards with 2 TDs and 3 INTs.  Wallace did run the ball well as he scrambled twice to 21 yards.  Shaun Alexander carried the ball 17 times for 37 yards (2.2 ypc).  Deion Branch had a good game with 7 receptions for 113 yards and a TD.  Darrell Jackson pitched in with 4 receptions for 77 yards and a TD.

The defense played terrible against the Niners.  The Niners ran the football 34 times for 262 yards (7.7 ypc)!!!!!!!  The Niners also completed 19 of 25 passes for 154 net yards thru the air.

The Seahawks better start playing better ball or the Niners are going to catch them!

Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 17 November 2006 at 11:27 pm

Both of these teams have two game winning streaks.  Both of them have been winning with defense as the Seahawks have only allowed 22 points the last two weeks, while the Niners have only allowed 16 points the last two weeks.

The Seahawks are saying that Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander are both game-time decisions.  Regardless of who starts the game, the Seahawks will likely try to run the ball at the start of the game.  The Niners allow 118.8 yards rushing per game and 4.2 yards per carry….so either Shaun Alexander or Maurice Morris should have a good game.  If Wallace starts, the Seahawks will run the ball more, but if Hasselbeck starts the Seahawks will throw often against a Niners pass defense that allows 221.6 net yards passing.  Opposing QBs of the Niners have a rating of 96.9 this season.

The 49ers have turned into a power running team and Frank Gore will be really busy against the Seahawks.  The Seahawks are allowing 101.8 yards rushing per game and 4.0 yards per carry.  Despite Alex Smith’s improvement this season, the Niners will be conservative on offense and try to control the clock to keep the Seahawks offense on the sidelines.

Look for the Seahawks to win this game, but it will be closer than most people think it will.

Seahawks get huge win over Rams 24-22

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 13 November 2006 at 1:03 am

Seneca Wallace had an efficient game completing 15 of 23 passes for 161 yards and 2 TDs.  Wallace also carried the ball twice for 30 yards.  Maurice Morris ran the ball well, carrying the ball 21 times for 124 yards (5.9 ypc).  Darrell Jackson caught 5 passes for 85 yards and a TD.  TE Jeremy Stevens caught 3 passes for 29 yards and a TD.  Nate Burleson returned a punt 90 yards for a TD in the 4th quarter.

Lofa Tatupu led the team with 10 tackles.  The Hawks had a rough time stopping the Rams running game, as the Rams carried the ball 20 times for 108 yards (5.4 ypc).  The Rams completed 26 of 40 passes for 191 net yards passing.

This was a huge win for the under-manned Seahawks who have now built a two-game lead in the division.

Seattle Seahawks vs. St. Louis Rams

Blogged under Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 10 November 2006 at 9:07 pm

The Rams have lost three games in a row and that streak started with the Seahawks miraculous win in St. Louis 30-28!  The Seahawks broke a two-game losing streak last week with a 16-0 win over the Raiders.

Look for the Rams to come out throwing the ball against the Seahawks secondary that is allowing 222.8 net yards passing per game.  The Rams lit up the Seahawks secondary in the first meeting between these two teams.  Marc Bulger (2,300 yards passing with 13 TDs and 1 INT) will attack the Seahawks down the field with Torry Holt (45 rec, 624 yards) and Isaac Bruce (35 rec, 554 yards).  As soon as the Seahawks try to concentrate on the pass, then the Rams will feed the rock to big Steven Jackson (691 yards rushing).  Jackson also is a load in the passing game out of the backfield with 41 catches for 412 yards.

The Seahawks will try to run the ball against the Rams, who allow 141.3 yards rushing per game.  Maurice Morris (387 yards rushing) is coming off of his best game of the season last week, but he probably doesn’t scare the Rams defense.  Seneca Wallace has played o.k. so far, but it took a superhuman effort from Matt Hasselbeck to beat the Rams in their first meeting and even on his best day, Wallace isn’t in that class.

I think the Rams will get revenge in Seattle because their offense is so much better than what the Seahawks can counter with.

Seattle Seahawks QBs

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Wednesday 8 November 2006 at 2:33 pm

Matt Hasselbeck hasn’t been as good as he was last season.  He also has missed time due to injury and is currently out for a while.  Hasselbeck has completed 58.5% of his passes for 1,249 yards with 10 TDs and 7 INTs so far this season.  Hasselbeck has a QB rating of 82.8 this season.  The Seahawks need to block a little better for the pass, as Hasselbeck has been sacked 19 times and got injured on one of those sacks.

Seneca Wallace has played well in Hasselbeck’s absence.  Wallace is very athletic, and the Seahawks like to roll him out when throwing the ball.  Wallace has completed 55.2% of his passes for 514 yards with 4 TDs and 4 INTs.  His QB rating is only 68.8, which isn’t too good but he’s a tough player.  Wallace has carried the ball 8 times for 71 yards (8.9 ypc).  The Seahawks need Wallace to play decent and manage the games until Hasselbeck returns.
