Seahawks fall in KC 35-28

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 30 October 2006 at 12:41 am

The offense tried to keep the Seahawks in the game, but they played pathetic on defense.  FS Ken Hamlin led the team with 11 tackles.  LB Julian Peterson had 9 tackles and a sack and LB Lofa Tatupu added 9 tackles.  The Chiefs ran the ball 53 times for 191 yards (3.6 ypc).  The Chiefs also completed 17 of 25 passes for 308 net yards passing.

Seneca Wallace did the best he could, completing 15 of 30 passes for 198 yards with 3 TDs and 2 INT.  Wallace also carried the ball 4 times for 18 yards.  Maurice Morris had another rough game, carrying the ball 12 times for 25 yards (2.1 ypc).  Darrell Jackson caught 3 passes for 64 yards and a TD.  DJ Hackett added 3 catches for 25 yards and a TD.  Nate Burleson caught one pass, and it was a 21 yard TD.

Seahawks vs. Chiefs

The Chiefs have won 3 of their last 4 football games, while the Seahawks have lost two of their last three games.  When KC fans got their season tickets in the mail, I’m sure that this game stood out……..Larry Johnson vs. Shaun Alexander…….Trent Green vs. Matt Hasselbeck, but not all is bad for the KC fan in this game.  QB Seneca Wallace and Maurice Morris are the guys now trying to win the game in Seattle, and the outlook for them is bleak!

Don’t look for Mike Holmgren to change what the Seahawks like to do on offense.  The strength of the team as it stands right now is the WRs.  Look for the Seahawks to spread the field with Darrell Jackson (33 rec, 523 yards), Deion Branch (15 rec, 216 yards), DJ Hackett and Nate Burleson and let Seneca Wallace throw the ball in his first NFL start. It won’t be easy, because Arrowhead is a tough place to play and the Chiefs secondary is filled with veterans who will try to trick Wallace into making bad throws.  RB Maurice Morris (224 yards rushing, 3.1 ypc) had better give the offense a little balance or the pass rush will tee off on Wallace.  The Chiefs have had major problems stopping the run, allowing 123.7 yards rushing per game this season……so maybe the Seahawks will try to run the ball a little more than usual.

The Seahawks defense has been a little stingy against the run, but don’t look for Herman Edwards to change how he runs his team.  The Chiefs will probably feed the rock to Larry Johnson (489 yards rushing, 303 yards receiving) and take on the Seahawks linebacking corps.  Also look for the Chiefs to keep TE Tony Gonzalez involved in the offense after his huge game last week.  The Seahawks allow 225.5 yards passing per game and an opponents QB rating of 92.2, so maybe this is the week that Edwards opens it up a little bit.

The Chiefs should win this football game.  Seneca Wallace will have a hard time in his first NFL start if the Seahawks have trouble running the football.

Seahawks by the numbers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Wednesday 25 October 2006 at 9:31 am

The Seahawks have been disappointing this season on offense, as they only average 20.2 points per game.  The running game has never got started this season as they only average 99.7 yards per game and 3.5 yards per carry.  The passing game has been a little bit better, averaging 204.0 net yards and completing 58.1% of their passes.

The Seahawks defense is allowing 23.7 points per game, which is not good.  The defense is good at stopping the run allowing 92.2 yards per game and 3.9 yards per carry.  The pass defense has been terrible as opposing teams complete 62.1% of their passes for 225.5 net yards passing.

Seahawks lose Hasselbeck for 2-4 weeks

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Hawks Squawk,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Tuesday 24 October 2006 at 2:36 am

Matt Hasselbeck will be out 2-4 weeks with a sprained knee, Seneca Wallace will take over.  This is a huge blow to a team that was already without Shaun Alexander and Bobby Engram.  The defense and the running game will have to step up or the Seahawks will be losing some important games.

Seahawks dominated on scoreboard and physically losing 31-13

The Seahawks got absolutely beaten up by the Minnesota Vikings yesterday.  Gone is the Seahawks 12 game home winning streak, and also Matt Hasselbeck could miss some time as he was knocked out of the game in the 3rd quarter with a sprained knee.  Hasselbeck completed 7 of 17 passes for 127 yards and a TD before he was knocked out.  Seneca Wallace didn’t look too good, completing 14 of 25 passes for 134 yards and 2 INT.  RB Maurice Morris was stuffed all day as he had 17 carries for 49 yards (2.9 ypc).  WR Darrell Jackson had a good game catching 7 passes for 136 yards and a TD.  Deion Branch caught 4 passes for 60 yards.

LB Julian Peterson had a great game with 10 tackles and 2 sacks, but the rest of the defense had a rough time.  The Vikings ran the ball 30 times for 175 yards (5.8 ypc)!  The Seahawks allowed the Vikings to complete 16 of 25 passes for 157 net yards passing….including a TD pass thrown by a running back!

The two players that the Seahawks couldn’t afford to lose, Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander are both injured now.  We’ll see if the other Seahawks can step it up until they get back.  If they can’t, it will be hard for the Seahawks to make the playoffs.

Seahawks vs. Vikings

Blogged under Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Wednesday 18 October 2006 at 11:25 pm

The Vikings have had two weeks to get ready for this important game.  The Vikings are sitting at 3-2 and need to win this game badly.  I would think that this would be a spot where the Seahawks would be in for a let-down after their emotional last-second win last week, but this game is at home where the Seahawks have won 12 straight games.

Don’t look for the Vikings to change their offense philosophy of running the football and throwing short passes.  The Vikings offense has been effective yardage wise (325.2 yards per game), but not points wise (17.8 points per game).  Chester Taylor (421 yards rushing) could find the going tough against the Seahawks defense that is only allowing 75.6 yards rushing per game and 3.4 yards per carry.  The Vikings should be effective with their short passing game as long as the receivers catch the ball when it hits their hands.  Johnson (1,128 yards passing) doesn’t favor any receiver and likes to spread the ball around.

The Seahawks would like to run the ball a little bit with Maurice Morris, but make no mistake….they will be throwing the ball alot.  The Vikings have a good secondary, but the Seahawks have alot of weapons when throwing the ball.  Darrell Jackson (26 rec, 387 yards) and Deion Branch cause all kinds of trouble for opposing defenses.  Hasselbeck is starting to throw to his tight-ends more and that is causing trouble for defenses too.

I don’t see how the Vikings will be able to generate enough offense to beat the Seahawks in their house.  I do think the game will be close, because of the Vikings defense.

Seahawks’ linebackers lead the way for the defense

The Seahawks linebackers are playing phenominal so far this season.  MLB Lofa Tatupu has 40 tackles, a interception and a fumble recovery.  OLB Julian Peterson has 28 tackles and 4 sacks.  He’s been everything the Seahawks envisioned and more.  OLB LeRoy Hill is building on his fine rookie year last season.  Hill has 26 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.  Teams will have a hard time running on the Seahawks all season because of these guys.

Field goal as time expires gives Seahawks a 30-28 victory

This was a fantastic football game.  Matt Hasselbeck led the team on a drive at the end of the game that set up kicker Josh Brown for the 54 yard game-winning field goal with no time left.  Hasselbeck completed 19 of 34 passes for 268 yards with 3 TDs.  Hasselbeck also scrambled twice for 22 yards.  RB Maurice Morris carried the ball 23 times for 74 yards (3.2 ypc).  WR Darrell Jackson had a good game. catching 4 passes for 94 yards and a TD.  Deion Branch had a good game in his first start catching 6 passes for 76 yards and 2 TDs.  DJ Hackett added 3 catches for 66 yards.

The defense had a hard time stopping the Rams offense.  The Rams ran the ball 22 times for 59 yards (2.7 ypc).  The Rams completed 26 of 39 passes for 309 net yards passing.  Safety Ken Hamlin had 8 tackles and a sack.  LB Lofa Tatupu had 6 tackles, defensed a pass and had an interception.  DE Bryce Fisher and LB Julian Peterson each had 2 sacks.

This was a huge win for the Seahawks!

Seahawks vs. Rams

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 12 October 2006 at 3:48 pm

This is a showdown for supremecy in the NFC Western Division.  The Seahawks probably thought they would role through this division again like last year, but they’ve run into some speed bumps.  The Rams have played well, but their also has been a lot of luck involved.

Without running back Shaun Alexander, the whole Seahawks offense is thrown off kilter.  Maurice Morris (101 yards rushing) could find some running room against the Rams defense which is allowing 120.6 yards rushing per game and 4.6 yards per carry.  If the Seahawks get something going on the ground it will take some of the pressure off of QB Matt Hasselbeck.  Hasselbeck buckled under pressure in the Seahawks last game against the Bears and was making real bad decisions with the football.  WR Deion Branch is gonna start this game and give Hasselbeck a second receiver to pair with Darrell Jackson (22 rec, 293 yards).  Hasselbeck must be careful however when throwing because the Rams already have 8 interceptions this season.

Marc Bulger has been pretty good so far this season.  Bulger has thrown for 1,259 yards and 7 TDs with ZERO Interceptions this season.  The Seahawks secondary is very vulnerable to the type of downfield passing attack that the Rams possess.  Torry Holt (29 rec, 372 yards) and Isaac Bruce (22 rec, 343 yards) have been putting on a show this season and they should both have good games this week.  The new demension of the Rams offense is the running back.  Steven Jackson has run the ball well (465 yards rushing) and caught the ball well (18 rec, 184 yards).  The Seahawks linebackers will have to stop Jackson if they want to win.  The Seahawks have been tough against the run so far this season only allowing 79.8 yards rushing and 3.5 yards per carry.

I think this will be a good football game, but I like the Rams to win a close one.

Deion Branch to get first start Sunday

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Wednesday 11 October 2006 at 5:37 pm

WR Deion Branch will get his first start on Sunday against the Rams.  Bobby Engram has a thyroid condition and could miss Sunday’s game, elevating Nate Burleson to the #3 WR spot.

TE Jerramy Stevens is also ready to return after recovering from knee surgery earlier in the year.
